Success after IF

Big u/s Monday...give me strength, Team Green!

Our big u/s is Monday morning and I'm already a nervous wreck!  Not only am I praying that all body parts and systems are growing properly, but DH is determined that we not find out the gender.  I would LOVE to know, but he feels like we need to have one surprise since the whole process of IVF has been so public and clinical.  It's the only things he's asked, so of course I'm going to say okay.  I'm secretly hoping he'll break down and say yes when the u/s tech asks if we want to know!  So, if you're on (or were on) Team Green, please give me all the wonderful reasons to wait and not find out the gender!

Re: Big u/s Monday...give me strength, Team Green!

  • well, I can't really help you out there - we felt that with 3 coming we needed to plan. But I have a friend IRL who is on Team Green and I think it makes the anticipation for her friends and family even stronger - we're all so curious about whether it's a boy or a girl!! She said she had a hard time finding gender neutral bedding but she ended up with a really cute nursery rhyme theme.

anyway, I wish you strength, but I also wish your husband will reconsider!

  • My H also wanted to be surprised at delivery. It was really hard right after the apptointment, but then we carried on and i wasn't anxious about finding out anymore. It than became more exciting about waiting and at our shower we did lots of games that were pertained to guessing the sex and stuff. It was really fun. But most of all, we wanted DH to tell me what the sex was, so when she was born, DH just kept looking and i was like what is it?????!!!! And he came near to me with tears in his eyes and said so softly "it's a girl" with the biggest smile on his face. I will remember that forever.

Good luck! Keep up the strength, in the end it will be SOOOOOO worth it! :)

  • just think it's one of life's few great surprises and how fun will it be for your h to run out of the delivery room and get to tell everyone.

  • it definitely builds the excitement!!  friends of ours didn't find out and it killed us :)  lol!
  • We're team green and it is so much fun!  It's very entertaining to see other people try to guess the gender.  Plus, it drives strangers nuts, which was an extra bonus for me :)  Also, at our shower we actually got a ton of things that we needed from the registry instead of clothes.  I know for a fact that if we had known the gender we would have gotten a lot more clothes.  Plus, as the date gets closer and closer I am getting so excited for the moment that we get to tell everyone "it's a ____!"

  • I'm not taking away from anyone that found out early but for someone that waited (and we were the opposite--my DH wanted to know and I didn't) it's definitely worth it.  It's so amazing when your LO is born to hear them say "it's a ___" or "you have a beautiful baby ___".  When they told me I had a girl it was this incredible, amazing moment that I will never forget.  Again, this was just my experience but I agree with your DH--there's so few surprises with the IF process that it's wonderful to have a surprise at the end.  Good luck with your u/s!

  • I'm new around here, and only very newly pregnant now. But my husband and I have talked for years about whether we'll find out genders of babies. I would prefer to, he would prefer not to. The man LOVES surprises.

My plan is to go ahead and let him have his surprise, though I can totally sympathize with you, because I can tell you right now that it will kill me. ;-)

But you can do it! I wish you strength!

  • don't do it!!!

I had a HORRIFIC labor experience and not knowing made the birth SO much more special. Seriously! I had the incentive to keep pushing.

when my sister screamed "it's a girl" I flipped! it was the MOST amazing moment of my life. that feeling is incredible on so many levels.

stay green and buy neutral!!! you can do it!

    :)

This -- hee hee.  It's hilarious!  But mostly, I just think that moment in the delivery room will be amazing.

Totally agree with all of this!  Everyone guessed we were having a girl - and we even thought he was a girl - until he came out and they said it was a boy...I made them tell me again, because I couldn't believe it!  And after he was born, everyone who came to visit brought us cute little boy things because all we had were green/yellow!  Definitely more fun waiting :)

  • Oh, and one more thing...if you ever have another LO, you will still be able to use all of your stuff because it will be gender neutral.  So you won't have to worry about going out and buying new stuff for a new LO!

  • I didn't want to know...DH did...I won!

The best moment of my birth next to hearing the newborn cries of my son, was hearing my DH whisper, "We have a son!"  There is no better suprise to me!

Plus, as stated above, I got mostly "stuff" at my showers and not a TON of clothes (no one knew what colors to buy).  That was a good thing in my mind:-)

And yes, the not knowing KILLED other people who thought we were crazy!  I loved it!  Some people even thought that we actually knew the sex and were keeping it from them.  Oh the torture games we were able to play with people!  I'd love to do it all over again, but alas, I told DH that the next time, we'd do it his way and find out the gender at the BIG u/s.  Good luck and stay strong!

  • we LOVED not knowing the gender until birth.  it was such a wonderful special moment that we will always remember.  DH got to be the one to say "it's a girl" as soon as she came out.  it was also the best motivation for pushing.  we wanted to know so badly that i pushed even harder and longer so we could find out sooner.  we definitely will wait to find out again when we have # 2.

i know it is hard, but it is worth the wait.  :)

  • We haven't had the big u/s yet but DH won't let me find out either bc it's the only surprise we have.  I am on board with it though bc I agree that it will make it so much more exciting for everyone to find out on the day of the birth.  My mom spilled our BFP news to everyone so it will be good incentive to make her wait too.  ;)  GL at your appt!  You can do it!

oh and another BIG reason for me that's good is bc I think I would go CRAZY buying stuff for it but it's no fun to buy gender neutral stuff bc there is hardly anything GN anymore and let's face it, it's just not as cute, IMO.

  • I'm Team Green and I love it!  One good thing is that we have gotten every single necessity off of our registry which is so great because we don't have to go buy all that now.
