I don't want to be whiny as I am blessed to be having a baby, I'm just upset becuase they finally set an induction date of the 15th after we have pushed it off for the last time.
I had a nst and fluid u/s today and he is going great, which I am happy about but they still insist on inducing Monday night into Tuesday morning. I understand the risks I just really want him to come on his own because we want to go med-free which I know is really difficult with induction and the induction itself is an intervention. I'm also really afraid of having to use a vaccum or c-section.
Plus I charted to get pregnant and based on that he is only 2 days late.
Please tell me your successful induction stories, I think I'm just a little upset and need time to let it sink in as him being here happy and healthy is the most important thing!!
Re: Need encouragement about induction from 3rd tri
Can you not have an induction at this point? Have you expressed your concerns to your OB? I think they are very valid. Some inductions go great. Some don't....
Best of luck!!
I can tell you this to encourage you: I went into labor on my own the night before my scheduled induction. You've got time to go into labor between now and Monday night. Good luck!
I was induced and it went great. I went in on Monday at 8pm to begin Cervadill, started Pitocin at 6am the next morning, and had my baby at 12:04am that following morning. I didn't have any complications, had a great birth experience, and have a happy, healthy, baby now...
Some inductions don't go great - you are right, although some natural births don't go great either... Whatever it takes to get your baby out healthy is the best thing IMO..
Good Luck! We'll see you soon over here! :-)
I was pretty much in the same situation as you. I wanted to try to go med-free so being induced was right up there under c-section in the list of how I didn't want my labor to go. Well I ended up starting my induction at 41w3d and finally had the baby at 41w5d. We did the overnight with Cytotec and started pitocin the next morning. I labored on the pitocin until 4:30 that evening with no meds and it was just fine, not painful at all. I was finally dilated to 1cm at that point (I had a LEEP procedure done which left some scar tissue on my cervix, preventing it from dilating well). She broke my water at that point and that's when the contractions started getting bad. I ended up getting the epi around 7:30 and it was absolutely fabulous. I was able to enjoy the rest of my labor, things weren't painful and I was able to relax. I started pushing at 2am and decided I would be the best pusher ever. I could feel enough of my contractions to know when to push but it wasn't painful. He was born at 2:33am without the use of vacuum or forceps.
I was really afraid I would end up with a c-section because it took me so long to get to 1cm, but things moved along well after she broke my water. I think the epi even sped things up for me, since I was able to relax and even sleep. I was ready to go by the time they said we'd start pushing. So all in all, even though my induction was long, it was a positive experience. Sure, I didn't get to go med-free but I actually enjoyed my labor which was better IMO.
Sorry this is so long but I hope it helps!
This
I had an induction and went med free. I was 1 week overdue and had been stuck at 3cm for that week and hadn't really been feeling any contractions, just off and on but nothing significant. I had an u/s the day before I was 1 week overdue and everything looked great still, she was doing fine but I still opted for the induction just because I was getting tired and just really wanted to meet our LO!!
I was monitored for a half an hour before they started me on Pitocin at 6:30pm, they broke my water then too to help speed things along. It wasn't until about 9 that my contractions really started to get intense to the point that I was going to ask for the epidural, and at 9 the Pitocin was turned off. I was checked at 10 because I had been feeling a lot of pressure and found out I was 10cm all ready!! So after about 45min of pushing there she was!! The only thing with us though was that near the end her heart rate was dropping and they were really concerned about it because it was going down and not coming up as much or as fast as it should have so they thought she might've had the cord around her neck. So in the end the Dr. did use forceps (which DH and I were both TERRIFIED of, and I didn't even want her to use) to help get her out faster. We were really concerned about this, but she was great and explained that they weren't like they used to be and it actually wasn't a big pair of tongs on your baby's head so we were ok with it. She was fine, and actually had the cord in her fist!! *lol* But all in all it was really good. I didn't have a problem with the induction at all, I was actually really proud that I was able to go med free even though I was on the verge of asking for something but it was too late!!
Good luck, I hope all goes well!!
I also had a very smooth and successful induction with my second DD. I had to be induced due to PIH. I started with cervadil, pitocin the next morning, then the dr. broke my bag of water. I gave birth to my daughter 10 hours later with only 3 pushes!
GL to you. Hope everything goes great.
My induction went well, and I even had some minor complications. I went in Thursday night for Cervadil, started Pit at 6am on Friday morning, they broke my water at 8:50am, and I had my LO at 8:50pm that same day. Pit is hard, but I was able to labor 1/2 the day on my own without meds. The only reason I got the meds was because my LO's heart rate was starting to drop with contractions, and I wanted to be prepared if I did have to have a c-section. His HR was dropping because the cord was around his neck, not because of the induction, and the drops would have happened regardless. They re-infused some fluids, and I pushed him out in 15 minutes with no other interventions.
It is scary, and I was really worried about the risks beforehand, too, but there's risks with natural deliveries as well, and as long as you have a good relationship with your MD, and trust yours and their instincts, you hopefully won't be disappointed regardless of how your LO is born. GL!
So I was one of those in which my induction didn't go so great and it ended in a c-section. I was like you and was really afraid of the c-section but it ended up not being as bad as I expected. By the time the doc made the decision I was so ready for it. I got to hold my DD right away, right there in the OR while they were still doing the surgery. No matter how your L & D goes, it is all worth it once you hold that healthy baby in your arms.

I was scheduled to be induced on Oct 28 and my water broke Oct 24 - the day after we scheduled. I did have to have some pitocin b/c the epi slowed down my contractions a lot, but everything went great and my L&D was super easy.
Good luck!
Same here- I had my baby about 10 hours before my induction was scheduled... and ended up needing a c-section anyway... which was also my nightmare, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I have a friend who is on her 2nd induction because her 1st was such a great experience. I'm sure everything will work out the way it is supposed to!
I also needed a c-section but it wasn't related to being induced. My induction went very well (albeit slowly)- was at 3 cm and 70% when I got to the hospital at 10:30pm. I was pushing by 1pm. Once they broke my water (around 4am) and I got the epidural (around 6am) things happened quickly. The only reason I needed a c-section was my baby's head was just too big and after 3 hours of pushing with no progress it became necessary.
Three weeks prior to my induction my good friend was induced- got to the hospital at 7am and was holding her beautiful little girl by 3pm. She had no issues whatsoever. Good luck!
Thanks ladies!! They have my due date as dec 4th so she didn't really wanting me go more than 10 days past my due date becuase of meconium and some other stuff she mentioned.
I appreciate the stories and it makes me feel better and of course there is still time. I need to get in a positive mindset cause despite all of it I am finally going to get to hold my baby!!

I was very apprehensive about getting induced but listened to my dr. and went through with it. I was 10 days overdue when we went through with it. Days before I was so stressed out about it and actually lost any sleep that was possible to loose from the anxiety of it all. The reason for me being induced was that the doctor was afraid if I waited any longer than my ds would be too big to push out. I didn't really believe him because of the reputation that those ultrasound measurements have. On my edd my dr said my ds was weighing at least 8lbs. So in my head he was measuring 7lbs. I wasn't too concerned about that. Unfortunately even with the pitocin my body didn't progress and ended up getting a c section. He was 8lbs 15oz, 21.5 inc long, head was 14.5 in diamater! So my dr was right! I don't think it's typical for doctors to underestimate measurements and weights.
The wisest thing anyone told me before getting induced was... "when he's out of you it won't matter how he came out of you, all that will matter is if he's healthy or not," my boy was very healthy and that's all that mattered to me.
Just relax and take it easy. Don't stress yourself out over all this. Trust me, weeks after you lo is born you won't be sitting there thinking I should have done it differently. Instead you'll just be admiring your little bundle of joy!
GL
I wasnt technically induced, but I did wind up sitting in the delivery room hooked up to pitocin wondering if I was ever going to dilate enough to have a baby. I was about a week overdue and my dr was planning on scheduling an induction if nothing happened soon.
I was at 1 cm for WEEKS before my due date and my last appt I was barely 2. I went in to the hospital because I was having weird contractions about 2 minutes apart that didnt hurt at all and honestly I was just hoping I would get to stay... When I got there I was still around 2, maybe 3 as the nurse put it. They monitored me for an hour and almost sent me home but told me to walk around a bit. Although the nurse didnt tell me, I'm pretty sure she re-stripped me the last time she checked because it felt exactly like when my Dr did it. I got up to walk around and my water broke within 5 minutes. Obviously I was admitted then.
So then the waiting started... no change in contractions or dilation. About 5 or 6 hours later I was still around 3, so they started pitocin. Then the contractions got painful for the 1st time. They told me I could have the epi if I wanted but also said it might slow things down... so I tried to hold off as long as possible. Around 2 hours later I was only 4 and it was hurting, so I asked for the epi. That whole process took about an hour from asking for it to getting it and then I was able to relax FINALLY. I was still feeling a little bit of pain on either side, but nothing unbearable by any means so they just kept leaning me from side to side to let the other side numb up more. I just slept in between flips.
After 2 hours of that they checked me and to the nurses shock I was fully dilated and feeling a lot of pressure. I wasn't "completely" numb, but I wasn't in any kind of bad pain either. They had me do a couple of "test" pushes and said I was ready to start and went to call the Dr. I pushed a couple more times and the nurses started freaking out because the Dr wasnt there yet, so I knew something was going to happen soon. THey had me try not to push through the next few contractions and finally the Dr got there. 2 more contractions after that and we were done. Everything went perfectly other than my 3rd degree tear. The nurses were shocked at how fast the pushing went and kept telling me I was the "most awesome pusher that week."
The Dr told me the epi probably helped me dilate because I was able to relax. Overall, it was a great experience even though I was worried at first that I would never fully dilate even after getting pit and would be pregnant for ever.
I was induced at 41w4d after failing a NST and bio-physical. I would have been induced at 42w anyways, and was ok with that, though I really really hoped I would go on my own. I also hoped to avoid as much intervention as possible.
I don't have a great story, but I do have some advice that would have helped me. First, try to go for breaking water over pitocin. I don't remember what my rational was, but I went straight to pit. It got awful quick, but even if it hurt the same had I done AROM, at least I wouldn't have had the damn IV. I went about 8 hours without pain meds, then got them at 8 cm, thinking that there was no way I could manage two hours worth of pushing that may still be ahead, even if I went to 10 cm right when MW broke my water. The pain came back even with the epi, so I got to feel what i wish I would have remembered pre-epi: pushing will feel a lot better. It all ended fine, no c-section, no vacuum, perfectly healthy kid (had probably just chosen a bad time to sleep :-P).
With DS I went into labor on my own 2 days before my scheduled induction.
With DD I basically went med free... it was a 30+ hour labor that was induced with Pitocin. I had complications though and usually it doesn't take that long, but I made it through alright. The induction itself went well and I had no complications or extra interventions because of it.
I was induced at 39 weeks and had made no progress up until then. I had cervadil the night before then pitocin early in the morning the next morning. The nurses were great I was able to walk and get in the tub with the help of telemitry. Pitocin wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I progressed pretty quickly and delivered within 12 hours of starting pitocin. I really listened to my body and although I didn't want an epidural I got when when the pain started getting bad enough that I was starting to tense up. The delivery was quick. I pushed for 40 minutes (including a 15 min break because he was coming before the doc was there).
My biggest suggestion is to talk with your nurses and make sure they understand what you want and listen to your body, it knows what it's doing even if it gets a jump start from medication.
