I was just wondering if anyone on here had experience/opinions about wether or not the hands free pump was was worth the extra $100.

TIA!

  • If you work and are planning on pumping at work I say YES!  I stood in BRU for almost an hour last year trying to decide if it was worth it.  Fortunately, I had a good coupon and I went for it.  I loved my medela freestyle.  I could pump in my office while catching up on email.  Also, I found double pumping without the hand free really difficult.

  • I double pump, but not hands free.  I have one hand free and usually play games on my phone or read a magazine while I'm pumping in the kitchen at work.  I couldn't pump at my desk, but at home I can play on the computer while I pump.  I put the left side on first w/ my right hand, put my left arm across it and then set the right side up and hold it w/ my left hand.  That way I have my right arm free.
  • you can also get regular (not hands free) double pump and cut holes in a sports bra, so that the flanges will stay in place.  i don't bother doing that anymore (only pumping 3 or 4 times a day anyway now) i just kind of keep one hand holding when necessary.

  • I used a regular Medela PISA and a hands free bra ($20)... worked awesome.  I could pump at my desk and type no problem.

  • I would say not worth it.  The nursing bras that I have bought (one Medela and one from Motherhood) both work to hold the flanges in.  Plus the holes in a sports bra trick works too.  KellyMom has this idea too... https://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/hands-free-pumping.html
  • I've never heard of a "hands free" pump. I know they sell bras that make a pump hands free. Personally, I just took an old sports bra and cut a slit in each side, I then put the shield on the inside and connect it to the rest on the outside.  Works great, I'm actually going to ask DH to bring it to the hospital tomorrow when he comes up.
  • I have the Medela Free Style... I work ... I love it . It is worth absolutely every penny I spent on it. I like that you can strap it to a belt and move around the house..its on a battery that stays charged for a long time. I recommend it definitely if you are going back to work ...but also if you cant stand to sit still for 15 minutes while you pump :)
