Pregnant after a Loss

Low Progesterone Question

My nurse just called and said that they got my results back for my progestrone level.  I asked them to check this at my second beta and I'm really glad I did because it came back low....19.8.  I guess they want it at at least 20?  They're putting me on a progesterone suppository. Has anyone been on this before? Should I be concerned? Thanks.

Re: Low Progesterone Question

  • I wouldn?t consider 19.8 low. Every Dr. is different some say anythign over 15 is good, others like it above 20. My progesterone was at 12.4 and only rose to 12.5 a few weeks later with supplements. And we are still just fine!

The suppositories can get messy so if you don?t have any, go out and buy some pantyliners and try to put them in at night if possible. Luckily I am taking it orally and will the entire pregnancy. I?m sure you will be fine!

  • I wouldn't be concerned, that number isn't bad.  I think they want it over 10 for non medicated (although 10 is low), over 15 for medicated cycle.  They are just putting you on progestrone as a precaution, which is good.
  • I agree with PP that 19.8 isn't low. But there's no harm in taking suppositories. My numbers came in at 16 and 14, which my doctor was actually fine with. I wasn't though, and asked for the vag supps. They're a good option because they're more effective than the oral supps, but less dramatic than the injections. A little messy and they make you tired, but I took mine at night and it was fine. GL!
  • Thanks everyone! It seems like the worrying is never-ending but your responses really helped.  Good luck to everyone!
  • My  lowest read was with this pregnancy at a 12 (or around there). I wouldn't be concerned with your # but talk to your doc if so.
