I called yesterday about the same problem and the nurse told me a small amount of brown is normal and to call back if it changed or if my cramps were worse or different. Today I'm having no problems.

I have had brown/bright red spotting on and off for a little over a week. I have minor cramping too, but not all the time. The night I noticed the spotting my DH e-mailed our OB who got back to us at 5 that it is completely normal. In the meantime I had been online and totally freaked myself out! A few days ago we had our first ultrasound and everything is fine. I suggest you call the Dr. for peace of mind. I felt better as soon as he got back to us and didn't even want to see me.
With DD, I had brown spotting for 3 days at 9 weeks. I didn't call or go in (because I had the nest...prior to bump days) and all was well.

Re: Tiny bit of spotting - call DR?
If its brown, no.
eta: at your next appointment I would mention it to them so they can put it in your file, but brown blood is old blood. So I wouldn't worry.

In my own personal experience, the old "brown blood is old blood and is not bad" is bullshiit. See my siggy and you will see why.
I'm not trying to scare you, but if I were you, call your doc.
