Infertility

Would you order IVF meds from Europe?

a friend of mine is out of insurance coverage for the IVF meds. anything she needs now will be out of pocket. she got some meds generously donated to her for her last IVF cycle (she ended up getting an IUI due to poor response), but she is considering ordering what she needs for her next cycle through a website in the UK (ivfmeds.com).

I am not even sure if this is legal, although she claims that it is. I think I would be too nervous to take meds from another country, even if it is the UK.

what are your thoughts?

  • No, I would not.

  • yea, I love a good deal just like anyone else, but meds are serious business. this whole process is scary enough. some things are just not worth it.
  • I wouldn't do it.  It would be too risky.  I am sure that no one is monitoring for quality.  I have heard of cases of people ordering flu medication on-line and when tested, it was only motrin!  Not worth the risk!
  • Nah... I don't think so...
Started TTC in August 2007, 1st BFP March 2008, natural m/c April 11th, 2008. 2nd BFP 1/1/09, diagnosed with possible ectopic 1/16/09, got Methotrexate shot 1/18/09. On Bromocriptine to balance my high prolactin levels (thanks to tiny brain tumor) that messes with my body. Long cycles and unexplained infertility suck monkey balls! October 2010: Boy/Girl twins born. Now... trying to get fit!
  • I would not order them through Europe. You have to pay for shipping. I pay OOP as well, and I have looked into getting the IVF meds from EU, CA and local. So far, Freedom Fertility Pharmacy seem to have the best prices. Might cost just a little bit more, but it's free shipping, and it delivers within 24 hours.

You might check in with Tabitha, oopmeds@yahoo.com. She runs the OOP meds donation bank. She might have someone who have leftover meds from their IVF to help.

    Good luck!

  • I would but not until I made sure shipping wasn't going to push me over the edge.  I found great prices at Alexander Twin Pharmacy (somewhere I have a blog post comparing prices for follistim and a few others)
  • i think it is okie to order meds from UK. and it is not illegal is what i was told. I have done so myself escp Menopur costs half in UK than it does in US. everything else is almost the same cost. The only two issues with Menopur are

    1. the saline solution is in ampules instead of vials. I always have trouble breaking ampules seals. But some really nice ladies from the board gave me leftover saline vials they had
    2. the dont ship needles, syringges or qcaps. I was able to buy a 15 day supply of these from a local phramacy without rx for 15$.

Its definately worth what you save escp if you are OOP.

Also like another poster said Alexanders Twin Pharmacy has some good rates. I have an excel sheet of all the pricing comparison. email me  if you need a copy.

  • Yes, I have and I would. They are a very reputable company and my meds always arrive sooner than promised. I have had no issues and been very happy!!

Also, shipping, at it's most expensive, has only cost me $39
