FFFC I feel so wasteful re: bathwater

I feel guilty every night draining the tub of water.  There are people who could drink that water and it would be so much cleaner than the water they do drink every day.  Even with baby pee!

I wish I could partition my tub in half - I'm not interested in those inflatable tubs - my bathroom in TINY & we have zero storage & it takes way to long to blow up & deflate nightly.

Sigh.

  • I guess you could use less water - or give your lo a bath every other night.

But if you have 2 or 3 in a tub - then it's no so bad.

  • Huh? You are cleaning your baby. How is that wasteful? Do you feel guilty when you take showers?

If you were standing in your drive way with your hose running into the street that would be one thing, but this puzzles me.

Ok then, take a bath with your lo.

You're not "wasting" water by bathing your child.

  • Baths generally use the same amount of water as a ten minute shower ... and that's for big people.  I'm assuming your tub isn't filled up nearly that much with a baby.  So, your showers are probably more wasteful.  If it really bothers you, stick a bucket in the shower with you and collect the greywater.  Then reuse that.  Still saves water, but without the baby pee. ;)

  • I put maybe an inch or 2 of water in the tub - it's never crossed my mind how wasteful it is.  I personally get annoyed when my son flushes the toilet whenever he gets a chance...then I think it's a waste.

Eh - you don't need a tubful of water - you need like 1/2 a tub!  I just wish I didn't use as much water as I do nightly - we are going to be facing a water shortage b/c of global warming eventually - just make me feel so wasteful b/c I don't HAVE to use as much as I do.

I find it odd that people are giving me the side eye about this!

Because you can do things to change - you can bathe your lo every other night, bathe with her, use the duck tub w/o inflating it every night. Just seems silly to feel so bad when you CAN do something about it.

No side-eye from me - this often occurs to me, especially since we have a huge tub.  I don't know what the answer is, but I often feel utterly hopeless about climate change, and these little things get to me as well.

    FYI-

that duckie thing does work well.  We only have one shower/tub so it did take up a lot of space. However, it does have a little suction cup on it and I would leave it stuck to the wall in our bathroom.  It was a beautiful decoration.

At least until the dog bit it and it popped.

  • We have a Eurotub.  I hang it on the back of the bathroom door.  I was worried it would be too big for our bathroom, but it really doesn't get in the way.
  • Check out this invention:

I know the inventor.  He's selling 'em right and left.  I'm waiting to buy when they incorporate the shower/bath water into the system.

  • I understand what you are saying.  We only bathe DS every few days.  Little kids don't sweat and stink like adults and he has really dry skin anyway.  I only fill the tub up 2 inches or so.  But most of the time he showers with DH or me.  He sits and plays while I wash myself and my hair.

I have also used a bucket to scoop up some of the used bathwater to water my plants outside.  Of course, DS's soap is ecofriendly.

ME TOO!!  I am not sure how anyone can be annoyed, put off, etc. by this post.  I understand your concern and think about the same thing!  DH and I were talking about the $$ we could make if we could create a gate-like thing that made the big bath smaller...

    This.  Seriously.

There is nothing wrong with knowing/feeling/wishing you could do more.  You can always do more.  What's wrong with thinking about all the people in the world who are dying because they don't have clean water to drink - even if we are bathing our kids every other day in two inches of bath water.  That's still cleaner water than many people have to drink.

I think it shows what a good heart you have that you are thinking about things like this.  It's sad to me that people don't have the 'time' to think about things like this.

  • We're still using the duck tub for the same reason.  DH has said more than once that he wishes he had something to fill just half the tub when we move her to the big bath.
