I really need to get this out there about that stupid a$$ medicaid post... the girl that wrote that post is 21, a year older than myself...when i got pregnant it was a complete accident (a good one but accident nonetheless), at the time i had a job and we had just bought a house...unfortunately my company didnt offer me insurance til after i was pregnant and at that point said it was a pre existing condition and i would have to go else.
i searched for private insurance and it was ridiculous how much it was going to cost us, more than our house payment! Anyway the point of this is, i believe the girl is making a bad name for women like me and several others that NEED medicaid...without it, I fear my child would not be healthy...i agree fully with many of the posters on there that state she is abusing the system since she fully intended to rely on medicaid and was planning this pregnancy...
okay my lil vent is over and I feel that i have said my peace...thank you ladies i will never again bring up such a mundane topic again!
Re: Because I didnt see the post in time...vent and long
I'm on medical (CA's version) and it was a pain in the ass to go through. All of the paper work, bank statements, car loan statements, rental agreement, tracking down closed accounts for documentation stating they are closed, etc. It took me 4 months to get approved. No, I didn't plan of having a baby through Medical. DH was laid off for 14 months, COBRA is waay to expensive, and he got laid off from his new job we relocated for the day I found out I was pregnant. BTW, I was told I couldn't get pregnant nor keep a viable pregnancy past 6 wks.
Yes, she may get it, but she'll probably have to pay a hefty co-pay because the co-pay is based upon your income and property value. Still, not a way to plan your baby.
Similar thing happened to me. I didn't go under my DH's medical because it was expensive and I was looking for a fulltime job while I was freelancing/interning. Then OOPS...someone is pregnant! I have been trying to get medicaid for the past 9 months but they are giving me a hard time. We have just been paying out of pocket. Luckily I have a healthy baby and I haven't had major problems but imagine if I did... we would have been totally ***ked!! I didn't want to apply for medicaid, I felt like such a statistic rather than a newly expectant mom. My baby is coming next week and guess where I am going on Monday... back down to Medicaid AGAIN to see if I could still get something. If I can't then I can't but I am also going to ask about Child Health Plus. Even if we have to pay monthly at least it would be a little cheaper than going on my DH's insurance which is totally raping us already and it's just him.
Took me months to get approved also. I can't believe she's expecting to get something in just a few weeks. I've tried to get health coverage, but with diabetes (insulin dependent) and hypertension, no one would give it to me...not even an expensive plan.
We fully planned on waiting until I'm out of law school, but that didn't happen. They still deny half of my charges because I'm high risk and my providers aren't billing properly. I hate calling them to appeal their denials and I'm so embarrassed about it.
This sounds like my in-laws. Both BILs had planned pregnancies and got on our state's medicaid as soon as they could. They are choosing to live a lifestyle that makes them zero money and very happily accept assistance. I have a real problem with this.
If you are capable of doing more and are not adequately providing for your family, then do something that does. Don't use assistance unless you absolutely need to (like your case where you cannot get insurance or in cases of unemployment).
In my opinion, government assistance should be a stepping-stone, not a long-term decision.
Well you've got a perfect lead over on 1st tri!! lol
This? I know private policies can, you have to be covered for 12 months before a pregnancy will be covered. But if your DH has insurance through his company, I thought they couldn't deny you. My DH has United Healthcare and he put me on his insurance right when I got my BFP, no problem.
