Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Bad mom question... what do you use

to 'entertain' your LO when you can't?  i.e in the shower, or making dinner.  I have a jumperoo, exersaucer and playmat, but I was looking for something else that would really keep her attention.

Any suggestions, or have I already filled her life full with my consumer driven parenting?  J?K- she is litterally in these things only 15 min at a time, if that, and I stop to play with her.... I'm not really that bad of a mom.... I think.....

Re: Bad mom question... what do you use

  • If you're okay with having your LO watch TV, have you tried Baby Einstein DVDs?

Its an awesome way for me to get 25 minutes of stuff done around the house.

  • Loading the player...
  • I'm horrible, I let her stare at cartoons while I dress....LOL.
  • Our LO really likes his swing.

  • Yep, you named them all.

I have a jumperoo, bouncy seat, activity mat, or lately I put her in her highchair with toys on the tray when I'm in the kitchen.

  • When I shower and dh isn't home I put her in the bouncer in the bathroom. When we cook dinner she sits in her highchair & watches us. And other times (e-mail checks, breakfast, brew coffee etc) she'll play in her jumperoo.

Oh yes, I do this too. Another good one!

  • If you have all three of those, I think you're set!

Babies need independent play, too - is she content to lie on her tummy or back for a few minutes? It helps her exercise her limbs.

    You're NOT a bad mom!

  • I use these things all of the time!  Sometimes we play with them together, but other times, if I need to get something done I have no problem letting her play by herself.  I think it's good to learn how to play independently.

We bought the Baby Einstein Exporation Tunnel (I think $30) and it's been great.  She used to love looking up at the toys and batting them but now that she rolls and sits, she sort of moves through the tunnel.  Apparently it will grow with her even when she starts crawling, etc.

  • She LOVES her swing and I swear would be happy to swing the day away with Baby E on. But I feel really bad...... (it does happen!)  Looking for some things to help her develop her 'skills'
  • I used to be able to put her in her swing with a toy but she throws herself forward so no more swinging.  Now I just plop her in her crib with a bunch of toys.  She keeps herself entertained moving around the crib and it gives me enough time to take care of quick things.
  • I use the same things you use and daddy too. :)  Right now she's most intertained by her hands in her mouth and LOVES her jumperoo.

  • DS loves the jumperoo - he will last half an hour in it!

  • DD has this and loves it!  I figured it's a little better than letting her watch tv.  It projects images on the ceiling and she could just stare forever!
  • Something we have that you didn't mention is the Bumbo w/tray.  I got mine off craigslist for $20.  I sit DS in it and put a toy - usually Sophie on the tray.  He'll sit there and play for 15-20 minutes while I'm getting lunches together or making bottles.

We do something similar to this.
