I found this on the AP board and while I consider my personal caregiving style to be a mix of AP (Attachment Parenting) principles and more modern principles, this article has a LOT of strong points regarding a baby's need for immediate attention, especially during the first 3 months.
I found it interesting that it didn't touch STTN though. That seems to be where the biggest CIO debate lies.
Re: Interesting CIO article
Interesting. We still haven't tried CIO. My pedi said not to until he is STTN. I know he's capable of STTN b/c he's done it on more than one occasion. (last night was not one of them!) I still get up and nurse him and put him back to bed. I did let him cry/fuss for about half an hour yesterday when I was trying to put him down for a nap...it did not work. Usually he'll cry a little when I first put him down but then go to sleep in about 15 minutes.
My friend is pg with her 3rd boy right now. She told me that when a baby is 8 weeks or 8 pounds they are capable of STTN and this is when she started whatever CIO method that she used. I just couldn't do it. That seems too young to me.
That makes me so sad for her kids. that is NOT ok
Lots of babies are 8lbs at BIRTH!
