Pregnant after a Loss

For those with MTHFR...

My peri just called me with his recommendation for treatment of my MTHFR, and he wants me taking 4mg of Folic Acid along with B6 and B12. Did your OB give you an Rx for the folic acid? I can only find a 400 microgram pill at the store so I will have to take 8 of them along with my prenatal and the other suppliments. I don't mind taking lots of pills, just wondered if there was an easier way. Thanks!

  • I believe the most you can get OTC is 800 mcg. Ask your doctor about an Rx for more.

  • My peri prescribed the exact same thing (plus baby aspirin). Walmart sells 800 mcg pills, but I think there's a rx called Folgard you could get. Trust me, when morning sickness kicks in, you won't be able to stomach 12 pills! GL!
  • Thanks girls! I will ask my OB Monday for the Rx.

  • I was told to take the same thing and was actually able to find 1000 mcg pills so I only have to take 4... look around at different drug and grocery stores because many of them seem to carry different brands with different doses.
  • Yes, my doctor gave me a Rx for Fabb Tablets. I take one 2x a day. Much easier!

  • Yes, Dr. gave me a script.  I take 3 pills a day.  I doubt I could manage 12!

  • I take a prescription, I think it is called Foltx, which has all three in it...my hemotoligist told me to double up while pregnant.
