need a break. (long-ish)

I need a break... just a short one from being "Mom".

I dont' mean that as harsh as it sounds I just mean I want to leave the house without either of my children, for an hour?!?!?! and just do something. anything.

the problem is, we literally have NO MONEY right now so I can't go get that cup of coffee, or that pedicure etc...

I think i'm feeling cooped up because the weather is so crappy and cold I'm hesistant to bundle DD up and go walk around Target just to browse.

And I"m freakin tired -DH is trying to help out but he's currently studying for a big licensing exam (work related) so when he gets home from work he needs to get right back into work mode to focus. I understand the importance of this for him and our family so I'm not freaking out that he's not doing as much as usual but I'm really feeling burnt out lately.

  • I think we all get that way!! I completely sympathize with the no money thing as well.  It is a really crappy situation to be in, you just have to try to catch a break any way you can.  I suggest braving the weather and walking around Target, at least it's something to do.  Do you have a mall nearby? Ours has a nice play area that will keep my DD busy for a little while at least!

  • It doesn't sound harsh.  You are going through a hard time right now & its ok to want/need a break!  we all do.  I was day dreaming the other day wishing I could afford a hotel room for a few hours or a night & I would go there all by myself & read trashy magazines, watch horrible girlie movies & order room service.  We can't afford that cup of coffee either right now.  I felt bad wanting to get away like that, but you know what?  it's alright! & it would be OK if you get out of the house by yourself... you need to every now & then.  You just had a baby for petes sake & you have another one not much older.  Hang in there!  see if you can get someone to watch them for an hour so you can window shop or just go for a drive or walk by yourself & get some quiet time.

  • I feel for you!   I can only imagine what it is like with a toddler and a newborn.  Do you have anyone that will watch them for a few hours for you?  Sometimes if I have a few hours to myself and no money I browse target or drive around with my radio up all the way.

And you dont sound harsh!  We all want me time too.   I cant wait for DH to get home so I can push DS off on him for a while.  DH and I are going Christmas shopping on Sat and I told DH how excited I am to go with out the boys!

  • Ugh, I feel ya. I don't go anywhere (besides work) like ever. I come home, play with the girls, they go to bed and them I'm bored out of my gourd.
  • a good quiet place to go is the library, and totally free!  our library has magazines and newspapers, so you could go and sit and read one for an hour.  i'm sure your husband could give you an hour on the weekend to do something like that!

  • Everyone deserves a little *me* time.  Can you leave the kids w/ a friend/relative and go to B&N or similar and just leaf through magazines/books?
