  • Whoa! Betty Crocker... move over! =)

That's awesome, JAR! Very impressive!! How long did it take you? It would take me a week to even assemble the house, there would be no decorating! lol.

My Mom and I have been making about 10 per winter since I was Caroline's age to be sold for charity at our church. They take about 6 hours each to assemble and decorate. You have to put it together and let it dry for 24 hours before you can put anything on it. This one, this is for my babies, lol. I am going to do a smaller one for J's party that the kids can rip into as well. We make the gingerbread in the fall, bake it in Oct/Nov. It is best if it has aged a little.

  • Wow, that is amazing. you just put the gingerbread village i put together to shame.

Such a neat tradition that you will be able to pass on to C & J! When they are a little older the 4 of you (you, the girls, and your mom) will be able to have a little gingerbread making 'factory.' lol. Very cool!

If you do it in steps it is not bad. You can make the gingerbread and either freeze it in rolls or keep it in the fridge for a long time. Then a month later roll it out, cut it and bake it (I have a cardboard pattern I made), it will store in a dry place for a long time. Then assemble the house and you can let it set for a few days. Then decorating is the fun part and can be done over a few days.

  • gorgeous!  i am in awe of your skillz.
  • Wow, that is beautiful! I'm inspired. My sister and I have always wanted to make a gingerbread house, so I think we are going to get a kit and give it a go this Christmas. I love how you break it up over Fall. I may have to give that a try. I really want to do one from scratch.
  • That's beautiful!  Great job.
  • that is beautiful!
  • So pretty. It looks so professional.

Do you really have to make the gingerbread a month in advance.  I wanted to make one for D's party, but if my gingerbread isn't aged will it fall apart

  • Very impressive! ?That's prettiest GB house I've seen.
