Help me get the skunk smell out of my house!!

A skunk sprayed in the basement last night and we couldn't stay there. The landlord cleaned and when I went back it was a lot better but not all the way gone. We are letting it air out again tonight then hopefully we will be able to stay again tomorrow night. Any advice or tips that worked for you if you've had a similar problem? I am dreading laying in my bed and smelling skunk!

    would spraying white vinegar on the spots work?

    don't know if it will work on skunk smell, but at work we put out a bowl/plate of coffee grounds to absorb nasty smells. 

    it won't fix the problem though if the stink is in the carpet/on the walls.

    There was a hole in the foundation that we didnt know about. I guess this past spring there were like 7 skunks down there that the landlord removed. He is fixing the problem by putting a rock over the hole. We are going to call him tomorrow and see if he buys the supplies if DH can cement up the hole. At least he cleaned though. When I spoke to him earlier in the day he kind of made it seem like it wasn't his problem!

    The problem with skunk spray is that it has thiols and these molecules take forever to break down before they are totally gone and don't smell anymore. Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda work ok to get some of the stink out but really you just have to wait. Also be careful about touching anything that was sprayed. We had a skunk spray the side of our old apartment and some molecules must have hitchhiked on my hand because, I kid you not, the next day my classroom doorknob smelled terribly of skunk.

    put a few bins of kitty litter in there (the one with baking soda in it)...
