My company only offers 60% of our pay when we leave, so I offered to work from home. They would give me a lap top, most of my work is paperless, to work for 100% of my pay. I figured that I would take a minimal break of maybe 3-4 weeks immediately afterwards to rest. I would then work from home finishing most of my work at night when DH comes home from work. A few other people who are going out on medical leave (surgery) discussed the same thing with the boss for next year as well. They have been talking to the head honchos and trying to make it possible.
The problem, the more I started to think about it, I got scared. I was more worried that with Lil Z here I would not be able to committ myself 100% from home. The last thing I want to do is dissapoint my company. So, I just talked to my boss and told him I would be okay with working half time from home. One half would be disability and the other 100% pay. He still has to take it to the head honchos, but I feel like I chickened out. I think my point is valid and I would hate to committ to something I'm not sure would work with the new baby.
Is anyone else thinking about working from home with the LO?
Re: I chickened out!
All you can do is be as upfront and honest as possible. I wish I could work from home... My job is also paperless, and I work off-site... but they dont go for the from home thing.... and we have a crappy leave policy, so mine is unpaid after my 3 weeks (sick and vacation) are gone. It sucks cause I want to take the time, but I dont know if we can afford it between meeting our deductable again and having more than a month unpaid.....
Good luck and I hope they let you do half time from home!!

I work from home full time (40 hrs/week) and I have to tell ya, it ain't easy. But it is possible. I do most of my work in the evenings/nighttime after DH gets home and can watch DD. I also work pretty much every Saturday. I try to do as much as I can during the day, but it's really hard to focus especially once she started staying awake more.

All of my work is done on the bank website and my only communication is emails. I probably could very well do it, but I'm afraid I will be cutting my time with LO or the company. I know for sure I would pick my LO over the company.
