I seem to hear about many, many people not doing any genetic testing, which I fully respect. I think it is the choice of the couple. I am in no way suggesting anyway is better than the other.
I just wondered if there was anyone else who was doing every sort of screening possible (other than CVS). meaning I am doing the 1st tri-screen (ie- NT scan with blood work), if probabilities are high-- I will do a follow up ultrasound and more blood work. If still a risk, I would likely do amnio.
if anmnio is positive, I do not think I would do anything different per say, but I would just need to know. I am someone who needs a long time with news before I accept it. I would be personally worried that I would have a hard time accepting and emotionally handling it if I did not know and there was something god forbid bad.
When I have talked to people about this IRL (just very close friend I told) all seemed to respect hte decision, but still seemed judgemental... like why would you screen if you are not going to abort. I said... you guys know me. I hate surprises (I am the person that told my DH to give me a heads up about when we were going to get engaged so I would be happier, which he did).
Anyways, if you also got genetic testing, would you do it again? How did you deal with people who were judgemental?
TIA.
Re: Anyone doing genetic tests?
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
We're going to do the NT screening in the first trimester (13 weeks)-- bloodword and ultrasound. We don't have a family history, but like many of you girls, we're planners and we just "need to know."
I work in the medical field with adults and children who have disabilities, and if my child needed services earlier in life, it would benefit my family to know this ahead of time so that we can plan correctly.
