Do they schedule inductions on the weekends?

My doctor's office is scheduling an induction for me for next week, but next Thursday and Friday are NOT good for me and DH.  I know that the reasons may sound silly ... Thursday, I just want to take the day off, and Friday, the county scheduled our property tax appeal hearing ... (which, if successful, could result in a 40% decrease in our monthly property tax bill!) ... so I called my OBs office to say that neither Thursday or Friday were good, and whether the hospital would schedule on a weekend.  I mean, the hospital doesn't close, per se, so I would think that they would ... but I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has ever heard of scheduled inductions on a weekend.

Re: Do they schedule inductions on the weekends?

  • I just had this discussion with my doctor...he said they don't schedule them on the weekends b/c they reserve that time for emergency inductions. I hope you can find a time that will work for you! :)

  • Mine will schedule an induction on the weekend if he is on call.

  • Ours doesn't either. They may not even have a bed for you on Thursday or Friday - it depends on how busy L&D is. It took me 3 days to get in for my induction with DD; it seemed like every woman in Philly was given birth at the same time.
  • Mine won't. I felt so bad when the doctor asked if there was a "good" day to schedule it. It made me feel like I was working him into my schedule, when I need to be working my schedule around him!
  • No, because they have a smaller # of OBs/anesthesiologists, etc. on the schedule. They're only there for emergencies on the weekend.

  • I'm being induced this Sun- but it probably depends on the practice and the hospital.
