How would you pronounce Alana?

    For Ah-lah-na I would spell it Alanna.

    I have a cousin with this name, pronounced Ah-lah-na.  She said she hasn't had too much trouble with people mispronouncing it.

    I would say ah-lah-na for the spelling Alana.

    I think Alena and Alaina (and probably some other variations) would be pronounced ah-lay-na.

    I actually like both of these names.

    I think if you want Ah-lay-na you need to add the i. Alaina.

    We've had this name on our list and THIS is precisely my own personal issue with it.  My name is Suzanne and I can't tell you how many people will refer to me as Susan.  Basic 1st-grade phonetics but what do I knowTongue Tied I can guarantee Alana or Alanna will become Alaina to half of America [insert sarcasm here] and I'd hate for the kiddo to have to deal with correcting everyone. 

    That being said, I LOVE the name.  Most people on here prefer the spelling Alana but I prefer Alanna to further accentuate the fact that it's NOT Alaina.

    Thanks everyone! We're hoping for the ah-lah-na pronunciation - but I'm not crazy with the Alanna spelling.

    Now DH wants Lana instead of Alana - but I really don't like it nearly as much!

    My good friend is named Alana (ah-lan-nah). No one mispronounces it.

    My niece's name is Alana and we pronounce it Ah Lah Na.

    Don't like "Lana".... we know someone who named her daughter Lana and DH and I both gave each other an "ick" look.  And out of "Alana" vs. "Alaina" (I know, different pronunciations), I like Alaina better.  Sorry!

    For Alana I'd say Ah-lah-na.

    For Ah-lain-na I prefer the spelling Elena.

    I know two gals named Alana.  One is from the East Coast and pronounces it ah-lan-ah (rhymes with banana).  The other from the Midwest pronounces it ah-lah-nah (ending rhymes with piranha).   I like the second way better myself.
