Anyone Dyed Hair @ Home with Bad Results?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before/frequently. I've dyed my hair at home many times, but never while pregnant. I'm not really concerned about the health risks (call social services!), but am concerned about how the dye will "take." I've read that the fluctuation in hormones during pregnancy can cause the dye to react differently with your hair. So, I'm wondering how many of you have dyed your hair at home, and what the results were like. TIA!

  • Everyone's different.   My suggestion is to do a strand test so you'll know for sure.

  • While I hate the thought of people using box color on their hair ( I am a hairstylist) do a strand test have someone help you grab a small piece of hair in the back that can be hidden. Use foil like you would be doing a tiny highlight and put the color on that piece for 10-15 minutes you should be able to tell if it will react differently. Make sure you wash and dry it to really tell. Good luck.

  • My Dr told me to not even do it.  She said I only have a few months left and it's not worth it.  I was bumbed but I figure she's right.  Even though my hair needs it in the WORST way!

  • i tried to dye my hair out of box when i wasn't pregnant and it turned pink. that's right. pink.

i wouldn't risk it- get it profesh done. it'll save you a lot of headache- and money - later when you have to go to the salon to get it fixed!

  • i had really bad results with an at-home color once and will never ever do it again, pregnant or not.  i have medium-to-dark brown hair and was trying to go darker for the winter (just a shade or two) and ended up with purplish black hair.  no kidding.  $200 later it was finally normal again.  i couldn't imagine doing it and it ending up bad while pregnant-- i'd cry for days!

  • I have done mine and it came out the same it always does, I did a dark blonde. I don't think I would try anything with any red tones though.

  • I've been using an at home highlighting kit through my entire pregnancy and it's worked the same as it has every other time I've used it.........
