I'm 24 weeks and had my monthly appointment with my OB/MFM today. We were really looking forward to seeing the boys since we haven't seen them since our big ultrasound at 18 weeks (6 weeks ago). Before that, our OB/MFM did an ultrasound at 16 weeks in her office, but we haven't had an in-office one since then (2 months ago).
Today, we have to wait 1.5 hours to see the doctor. A nurse tells us several times that she's running behind but they are just setting up in the room with the u/s machine and we will me moved in there shortly. Finally, the doctor shows up and listens to the hearbeat with the doppler. Clearly, we aren't moving to the other room and she's not planning on doing an u/s. I am really ticked, so I ask her. She says, "it's in use at the moment." Then I bring it up again later by saying "so it will be another month before we get an ultrasound, which will be a total of 3 months," and she says, "well, it's been acting up today." Clearly a lie. I guess she was tired and just wanted to go home.
Is it normal to wait 3 months between u/s appointments? We alternate seeing her and seeing a midwife each month, and the midwife doesn't do ultrasounds. I just thought that with multiples, we'd be getting ultrasounds more often, especially now that I'm getting so much bigger...
Is it just me?
Re: Is this normal re: ultrasounds?
PS: I agree with PP that they check my cervix at least every month, which is really important and also I have a 1/2hr. growth scan now once a month - week 20, 24, 28, weeks, etc....through my MFM.
I have an u/s at every OB appt., which is pretty much once a week at this point. I love it, but I don't think it is the norm. I think I have counted 15 u/s so far at 25, almost 26 weeks
(several were in the 1st try due to bleeding)
I'd be really uncomfortable with 3 months, especially with how far along you are.
I get an u/s every 4 weeks, and they also assess my cervix each time for length and funneling.
I hope you can get things figured out with them soon.
I agree with everyone else 3 months is a long gap.
From 12 weeks on to about 28 I was at the ATU center every 2 weeks getting either a growth scan and a cervic check.
From 28 weeks to 33 weeks it then went to week fluid checks and growth scans.
33 weeks was my last growth scan, simpley because my peri told me that they wouldn't stop labor after 34 weeks.
33 weeks - 38 weeks I went had 2 NST's & fluid checks a week.
I think you should call back and demand an US to check on those babies.
i had cervix checks monthly starting at 16w.... you NEED to get those- might need to see a Peri to get them.
as far as seeing the babies- had US's at the peri at 12w for the NTS... then a quick look at the 16w cervix check, just b/c the US tech was nice... then anatomy scan at 20w... then every 4w with the cervix checks after that we had growth scans.
my OB also would do a quick US to get the HB's since it's not always so easy to get them with doppler.
Yeah my OB practice is super laid back, but 3 months seems like a lot.
I got my first at 11 weeks and the next one wasn't until 19 weeks (but thats still less than 2 months) After that, they were every 6 weeks.
Is there another OB in your practice you can see next time? I'd be a little upset if she was rushing you like that.
