My son is getting baptized in February and I am just starting to plan it now. How much did you spend on the baptism outfit? Did you invite family only or all of your family and friends? Did you go out to eat after or do something at your home? Where did you get invitations?
We live in a condo that is too small for entertaining large parties so I am thinking of doing a brunch at a local restaurant. I am just trying to get my head around what a normal budget would be. TIA!
Re: If you got your LO baptized...
We haven't done it yet, but are doing it in Jan or Feb. We're inviting just parents and siblings because we live out of town from everyone else and don't want to make it a huge to-do.
We'll be hosting a brunch at our home but if we weren't doing it in our hometown I would totally do a restaurant - so much easier.
Oh, and DD is wearing my baptism gown from when I was a baby. If it fits, that is (I was 10 days old!).
his outfit was like $35 or so.
we just did family. it would have been nuts if we invited everyone!
we had lunch back at our place.
since it was just family, we just called or emailed everyone.
We did evites for the invitation. Family and friends were invited. Our church has a hall we used for a small donation. For food, we got sandwiches from costco, drinks, and cake. Nothing fancy but it fed people.
The outfit we got at Buy Buy Baby for around $60.
I just did mine this past weekend. The dress was $70, diaper cover $12, socks $8, shoes $12, headband $8 and she wore my little knit sweater from when I was baptized. We invited close family and close friends so had a total of maybe 30 people there. We had a buffet lunch at the countryclub down the street (it was $20 per person). I ordered a sheet cake for $60. So altogether I spent about $800.
DS was baptized on November 1st - we invited immediate family (no friends) - ended up with about 25 people. Our church is very casual so we just put DS in a cute sweater vest/khaki pants/sweater coat & hat outfit (I got it at The Children's Place and spent around $40 for the entire outfit).
We rented a pavillion at a local park afterwards and served mini sandwiches, chili, moscaccoli, veggie tray, chips & dip, LOTS of desserts (including a Baptism cake, of course). I spent around $150 on food, drink, and cake. My mom and MIL helped out with the food costs and prep though. I assembled the sandwiches myself. We had 2 liters of soda, punch, and bottled water to drink.
Ours turned out great! The weather cooperated and was a lovely day overall. Here are a couple pics for fun:
ETA: I got his invitations from a Hallmark store. They had a cross and glittery stuff on the top. We printed them so they turned out really nice.
Ours is actually on the 20th of this month. We invited probably 100 people. Both sides of the family are huge and everyone takes it personally if they're not invited. So we invited 100 lol.
Food is probably going to go over $1,000 plus cake, decorations, and outfit. We rented a clubhouse for $75, not bad. Oh and FIL is paying for the food. MIL is paying for the cake. They're in the middle of a divorce, so it's very competitive. My parents are buying all the beverages. We are paying for decorations and appetizers, probably around $300.
Our gown was handed down from her great grandmother, who was also baptized in it. It was made from the wedding veil of her great great grandmother...super old
We only invited our immidiate family, no invites, just word of mouth
We have a fine size house but I dont care for some of my family members so we went out to eat but we did pay for everyone.
My DD is getting Baptised this Sat. I ordered the invitations on line from Inviting Smiles and spent like $50.. We got the baptism gown made out of my moms wedding dress. I thought that was special and will be worn in the future by any of my kids and any of my brother's kids. The seamtress said it would be easy to make some alterations on it for future use to change up sleeves, etc
We invited family and just a few close friends. Total b/c DH's family is huge we will be having about 40 ppl. I also live in a condo and our place is too small. So we are having a luncheon afterwards at my parents. We aren't spending too much on food. I just ordered a big lasagna and big baked ziti from a resturant. Then we are just doing some appetizers, salad, cake, some wine and beer.
I've been to some where they had it at a church hall or a clubhouse afterwards.
DD wore a gown my mom made (it will be worn by all future babies in our family, DD was the first grandchild) We just invited family to church, but a lot of DH's aunts/uncles/cousins live in town so we invited them to eat lunch with us. We did dinner at my MIL's house because she lives a mile from the church and has a big yard. If it had rained that day, we would have just stayed at the church fellowship hall. We did bar-b-q (smoked boston butts with beans, potato salad, etc)
my kids were baptized and had their first communions this past july
we waited so long for sophia b/c my sister was not able to fly up to be the godmother b/c of medical reasons. but she was here when chase was born. we have to 40 days after i gave birth for me to be allowed back into the Greek church.
no invites and no reception. just a had grandparents, great grandparents and god parents back to the house after the church for cake and i ordered a sandwich platter.
i got their first communion outfits at a discount store maybe 30 bucks for both.
no need for baptism outfits 'cause if your Greek you are naked!
We spent about $40. He also wore a bib and crocheteed cape/hood/coat thing that DH wore. We invited family only (our only local family is my parents, DH's parents and brothers came in from OOT). So we kept it small.
After his baptism, we went out to eat at a local restaurant, Blue Water Grill... somewhat casual, but nicer than your average restaurant. There were only 13 people including us, so picking up the tab wasn't a big deal. If we had a lot of people, we probably would have done it my parents' house or at a hall. After that, we headed back to our house for cake. We didn't send out invites since it was just immediate family.
ETA So, $40 for his outfit, $200 for the restaurant, $20 for the cake, overall less than $300 spent. Pretty cheap.
