Painful breastfeeding?

I have gone through three rounds of antibiotics for infected axillary lymph nodes. My armpits are swollen and red, and very sore. My doctor does not think it's mastitis because I don't have any other symptoms besides the tender and red lymph nodes. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, has anything helped prevent this??

Re: Painful breastfeeding?

  • Maybe thrush?  If it is untreated it can spread throughout your ducts.  Especially being on antibiotics I would ask.  That's what caused ours.

  • I haven't had any kids yet but have had this happen to me before if I am understanding correctly what you are describing. Probably 4-5 times in the last 10 years I have had  lymph nodes in my armpits that get extremely swollen and sometimes it hurts to even put my arm down. I've seen a dr the first few times this has happened and it has been attributed to a stressful time or my body trying to fight off an illness. It usually goes away for me within 1-2 weeks. The last time it happened to me was earlier this year when I was on a 2 week work trip that was very stressful. Hope you feel better soon.
