Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Once you started veggies/fruits...

Did you keep giving LO cereal or oatmeal?  DS has had sweet potatoes and carrots so far.  We're starting squash this weekend.  But this is his current menu:

Rice cereal (mixed with water) for breakfast

Rice cereal & carrots for lunch (not mixed together - seperate)

Oatmeal & carrots for dinner (again seperate)

He also drinks approx. 32oz of formula per 24 hours.

I feel like he may be getting too much cereal/oatmeal per day.  Once he's had all the veggies and we start fruits - he'll have fruit for breakfast, veggie for lunch, veggie and oatmeal for dinner.  Any thoughts on what we're doing now?

Re: Once you started veggies/fruits...

  • We only give him cereal in the morning mixed in with fruit.

We do it like this: 1 ounce of water, 1 ounce formula, 1 tablespoon of rice cereal (he doesn't like oatmeal) and one ounce of fruit (apple, bananana, pear, plum, peach, etc).

  • Loading the player...
  • I am still mixing with cereal, but the book Superfoods says to feed the fruits/veggies on their own (sometimes, and sometimes mixed with cereal).

My DS has a very sensitive stomach, which is why I'm still mixing.

  • When we reach 3 meals per day, I'll only do cereal twice a day.  Lunch time will be a fruit and veggie but no cereal.

  • i'm not really doing breakfast lunch & dinner, i'm doing fruits & veggies, more as an intro. but i make sure he still getting all his formula, which is still his primary source of nutrition,  if he gets too full off of other things, he may not drink all his milk.  this is how we do it:

    7am 6 oz of formula

8:30 am  oatmeal cereal mixed with a tablespoon of fruit

    10am formula

    1pm formula

    4pm formula

    530 pm vegetable with fruit

    8pm formula

  • I mixed rice cereal with the runnier fruits for a while and then quick altogether.
