Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

ummm...she is sitting in her timeout corner

Just hanging out over there like she enjoys it. Oh boy.

ETA: I didn't put her there.

Re: ummm...she is sitting in her timeout corner

  • Wondering why you had to add that you didn't put her there? You have a timeout corner so I assume you do use it?  No harm in that...

PS- your sig pic is adorable and funny

  • Uh-oh, maybe she knows something you don't know!Wink
  • Maybe she is punishing herself for something you don't know about yet?!  :)

Quick question - I am wanting to start using time out but I am not sure that DD will understand what is going on.  She is 13 months today.  I noticed that your daughter is not much older.  How do you do time out and when did you start?  Thanks!!

I didn't put her there now. I put her there when she is doing something that she isn't supposed to do. :)

    Thanks!

  • My son cried the other day when I took him OUT of his timeout chair.  It obviously isn't working for me!  Kids are funny with those timeout chairs.

I started about a month ago. I tell her to stop doing something twice, if she goes back a 3rd time I keep repeating that we don't do that and I sit her in the corner. I keep putting her back if she tries to move for 1 minute. When the minute is up I hug her and tell repeat the behavior that we don't do.  Does that make sense?  Very much Super Nanny style. :)

That is pretty much what I figured.  DD understands no and I think she would catch on to timeout pretty quickly but I wasn't sure when to start.  Think we will give it a try and see how it goes.  DH hates Supernanny (he has no idea why but the show irritates him) but I love it.   Thanks!

    BTW - Madeline is a great girl's name!  :)

She very much knows she isn't supposed to do it because she will look at me as she touches whatever it is with a big ol grin on her face. They are smart. :)

I do enjoy that name! :)

I'm going to butt in here.  Time outs may work for some people with young LOs (like the OP) and that's great.  But most of the time, kids under 2 are way too young for time outs.  They just simply don't understand the idea of a timeout.  And a lot of times, they won't sit for the amount of time you want them to sit for (if they even sit at all) and it ends up causing you more grief that it's worth.  Most children under two do not have the cognitive ability to get the point of a time out.

But, like I said, maybe it does work for some people and that's great.  But don't expect a time out to work at 13 months for all kids.

    Totally agree.

  • When my cousin was little and she knew she did something wrong she would run to her time-out chair and yell "start the timer." A lot of times she knew she was getting too worked up and it was a way of calming herself down:)
