3rd Trimester

Thinking of switching to Team No Back Stabbing

All along I've been all about getting an epi, but the last couple weeks I've really been considering going natural. I'm pretty sure that if I go in with an open mind and "whatever happens, happens" attitude then I WILL cave and get epi.

Anyone else thinking of switching over to either side the closer you get?

    No.

  • Come to the dark side, it's nice and comfy over here.

Though I didn't change my mind that late in the game I never considered going natural until I was actually the pregnant. Even then it probably didn't cross my mind until the 2nd tri. I went natural with DS and hope to have the same experience this time around.

  • No way in hell.  I had an epi with my DD and I'll have one again.

But all the more power to anyone who is strong enough to make it through without (not that it's better!!!)

  • I was the same way for weeks, but now I am really really hoping, planning, and praying that I can go natural. Obviously I have never birthed a baby before so I can't be closed minded, but I am going to give my best effort to do this natural!
  • hmmm, i would say don't make a firm decision either way.

i tried natural with DD1, caved and got an epi at 7cms.  it was heaven.

this time i will probably try to hold out again as long as possible.  maybe i'll need it. maybe i won't.  i just want to wait and see. and imo, waiting and seeing is what labor is all about.

  • My doula told me that almost everyone that tries to go natural ends up asking for meds and it is actually a good sign because it means the baby is about to come out and you are about to start pushing! She has had both her babies no meds and said that the first time it was awesome to have her doula because she asked for meds and her doula was able to help her get past that point. I know personally I would not make it all the way thru without a doula or some help. This is my first so we will really have to wait and see though!

  • I had an epi with DS and DD.  With DS I was induced and the pain was horrible.  I didn't have it on during the 4 hours of pushing though.

With DD I didn't get the epi until I was 7 cm.  She was two pushes and out.

I'm really thinking of trying to go without this time.  I have no idea why I'm thinking that, but it is a thought that has been floating around my head for a couple of months.
