My sister in a junior in college and she does after-school sitting on the side. She uses a site called sittercity.com to find jobs. Anyway, she found a 45 hour position on there that pays $600 a week, and she wants the job. It's for a 7 yr old and a 9 month old.
She has only spoken to the mother through this sitter site and emails. The mother and her two children have been in England for a few weeks (lady's mother died I think), and the father just had to leave for China for a month. The mother has offered my sister the nanny job, without having met her in person, run a background check, or even talk to my sister on the phone. Not only that, this lady wants my sister to pick them up from the airport this Sunday and start to work right away. She sent pictures of what they look like.
My mom is FREAKING OUT! She thinks it's a scam and that this is either someone trying to steal my sister's identity or a man trying to lure my sister into a dangerous situation.
The whole thing is crazy right? Even if this person is legit, my sister is obviously dealing with loons. Who hires a nanny without background checks, personal interviews or even a phone conservation???
My sister is so blase about the whole thing. She is going to have a couple friends follow her to the airport.
How does this woman even know if my sister's car can fit them all, and if her carseat with work in the car?
Re: This is crazy right?
She should look into these people.
Though I use sittercity and have been fine with it.
My sister was worked for sittercity and my understanding is to be signed up to sit for them you have to pass a company background, be certified in CPR, and maybe a couple other qualifications.
I think it is weird that she wouldn't at least talk to her on the phone but I can see how if she is in a bind she didn't have a chance to meet with someone given that they are currently overseas. Has your sister had other jobs through this site? If I remember correctly previous customers can leave feedback on you so maybe she is basing her information on that? I don't know, not something I would do but maybe she is despreate for help.
Sounds pretty sketchy to me , personally I would back out.
