Success after IF

Is this behavior typical?

Cordelia scarfs down rice cereal.  We tried sweet potato tonight and she didn't like it.  She'd cry when I gave it to her.  I slowly mixed some in with her rice cereal, and when it got to be about a 50/50 mix, she started crying again.

Eleanor doesn't really like rice cereal.  I feed some to her on my finger and she tolerates it.  But she actually seemed to kind of like the sweet potato fed to her on my finger.  Maybe she just doesn't like the spoon?

So far after four days of solids, Cordelia has eaten probably six tablespoons of rice cereal and a teaspoon of sweet potato.  Eleanor has probably eaten two teaspoons of rice cereal and a teaspoon of sweet potato.  So basically hardly anything.

Is it normal to start out this way and then have them actually like eating food soon?  How long does it take?

Re: Is this behavior typical?

  • Yes!  Our start to solids was very slow.  DD gagged on peas and sweet potatoes.  She barely ate any ceral.  I slowed added more and I tried some new things to seee what she liked.  After she got use to eating I tried the peas and sweet potatoes again.  She is still not a pea fan but SP are ok.  Just keep trying it can take a while to get them use to it.

  • Have you TASTED that freaking cereal?  Tastes like wallpaper paste.  Seriously.

We gave DD#2 the HappyBellies cereal, which is a touch tastier.  But, man, that other cereal should be outlawed.

  • takes awhile for them to get it and for them to like it.  they don't need much at first...they will get it

just takes some time.  that's why pedis tell ppl to do rice cereal it is cheaper than jars to start out with.
