So I was dead set on not finding out the sex of the baby until birth but DH is dead set on finding out before and is now trying to convince me to find out before!
What is everyone else choosing to do and why??

i need to know what to get so i'm finding out asap. i don't do neutral nurseries nor do i reuse the themes so that's out. plus neutral clothing are nowhere near as cute! and everyone wants to know for shower gifts. oh, and as soon as i find out i like to start calling baby by his/her name so it's not such a weird thing when there's an actual person here!
I'm choosing to find out...This is my first baby and pregnancy, so I'm SUPER excited and anxious about everything. I guess I mainly wanna shop! My mom didn't find out what she was having and she was happy with that. But I've wanted to know since the day I got a BFP! lol...
We want to find out simply b/c we want to know. Yes, it will be fun to have a direction to go with the nursery and shopping. But honestly we are just not patient :-)
1. Practical - so we (and everyone looking to get us stuff) know what to buy... I'd rather not have a wardrobe full of gender neutral clothing.
2. Emotional - at some point I will probably develop an 'inclination' as to the gender or begin to wish for one gender over another. Yes, I will be thrilled with either one as long as it's healthy, but having a preferance is normal and I'd like to KNOW what I'm having before I develop a preferance.
we found out with ds and we'll find out again this time. i'm super impatient and couldn't wait any longer! more importantly for me, though, i felt it helped me bond with the baby better, knowing a bit more what to expect, being able to picture a boy, etc. it's obviously a personal decision and i hope you and your dh are able to come to an agreement!
originally I was going to let DH find out and have it be a secret for me but once I've started to think about it I'd really like to be able to plan a boy or girl themed nursery!
I think I'm leaning towards finding out since I am too a big planner (I was planning my wedding since I was a little girl) so naturally I like to think ahead and knowing the gender would certainly help the planning process!

Well DH and I were not going to find out but the more I think about it we have to find out!I need to plan the nursery! I just want to be fully stocked with pinks or blues!

This. The funny thing is, at first I didn't realyl care if we found out before birth or not, but DH really wanted to find out and after talking, I agreed. Now MIL is trying to talk him into not finding out so he's starting to change his mind. Grr, its not her baby!

we're not finding out until birth. i'm really hooked on the idea of the big surprise in the delivery room. i'm all for the big items (car seats, high chairs, etc) being neutral, and i plan on doing an orange or yellow nursery either way. i guess i just don't see how there's that much to be done before the baby is born that hinges on gender.
We are going to find out as soon as we can! We can't wait to know what our LO is and give it a name. I am also borderline OCD and I have to have everything planned out and ready for the baby!

Were finding out, personally I really dislike gender neutral clothes and baby rooms. I want girly stuff or boy stuff, and there is no way I am setting up a nursery after the baby is born. Plus I want to have a name planned out for the baby.

At least I'm not the only one! This will be one of the biggest surprises in our lifetime and we don't want to spoil it until he/she actually arrives

Seriously loved not knowing for our first. I didn't want to get all gender specific stuff at my showers. A lot of people (I thought) would have bought me clothes and cutesy stuff rather than the big things I really needed (all gender neutral)! It was the best surprise ever when she was born!
We are not finding out. We want to be surprised by who's in there on delivery day and we also want it to be an exciting day for our family and friends. I feel like when everyone already knows that it's a boy or a girl they're not waiting on pins and needles quite the same way. JMHO.
We're not finding out. I feel that people (especially children!) are gender stereotyped enough as it is - why start before birth?? Also, we really don't care for themes or characters, so we're leaning toward solid colors or geometric prints for the baby's room anyway, probably something light blue, teal and white (Land of Nod has a cute bedding set we're looking at). And by keeping a lot of the big ticket items like the stroller and carseat gender neutral, we can reuse it for any future children, as well.
And the surprise in the delivery room will be a fun experience! When we told my OB we didn't want to find out, he was actually pretty excited - he said that he rarely ever gets to make the big announcement in the delivery room anymore!
We want to find out because we are both impatient and like to be able to picture the future. I also feel like it will make bonding with baby different for both of us, to be able to have a name for him/her. And some how it seems like it will make everything seem more real...
At the same time, I personally am not a fan of gender specific baby stuff, I would much rather have gender neutral items, so we're kind of thinking we might keep the gender a secret until baby is born. We'll see, though, we're pretty bad secret keepers...
It seems like whatever people choose to do, they are happy with their decision in the end.
DH and I are both on the fence. We don't have to know but at the same time we wouldn't mind knowing. I think at this point we are just still in shock that a LO is on the way!!!

I agree with this totally. I want the delivery room suprise! I also don't really see the need to colour theme everything according to the baby's gender. DH is also very happy with 'team green'.
Like some PPs, I am really uncomfortable with gender stereotyping. We're doing a gender neutral nursery and I want a lot of baby's clothes to be gender neutral, as well. (Friends are already making fun of us that we'll end up with a little girl who grows up and says, "All I wanted for Christmas was an Easy Bake Oven and my feminist parents bought me a Tonka truck!")
However, with that being said, we are too impatient to wait to find out! So we're going to find out, and then try really hard to encourage family members and friends to buy us gender neutral shower gifts. It's probably going to be tough, though. Maybe we will find out and keep it a secret!

I have never wanted to know but my DH wants to know. I decided that as the mom I am going to get to make a lot of the decisions and that he could make this now. Now that I have given him the final say, now he isn't sure if he wants to know anymore. I read somewhere that finding out just puts you one step closer to knowing your baby and I thought that was really sweet. So now I'm kinda of excited to know! We'll see what he decides. Whether way, I'm happy!

I had always thought the first one would be a surprise for us...but DH really wants to know. I've decided to cave in and we will find out if the baby co-operates with us
we are definitely finding out! for all the reasons others mentioned... neutral stuff is definitely not as cute (IMO), and yes i am a planner too and want to have everything set up. but mostly? we can't wait just to know! the baby will feel so much more... REAL i guess, the more information we have to daydream about!
