Delivery Charge at BRU....seriously???!!!

My parents wanted to buy the furniture for the babies room so I put what i wanted on our registry.

The just called and said BRU is charging $500 delivery fee - are they serious!!!

UGH - I told them not to buy it - we wil go to the store and figure out how to order and get it to the house.

I am annoyed - when one is spending $1,000 on furniture delivery should be FREE!!!

Re: Delivery Charge at BRU....seriously???!!!

  • That's steep.  We went to a local non-chain children's furniture store for our 2 cribs and 2 dressers - the pricing was similar to/in-line with BRU but we got 10% off the 2nd crib and 2nd dresser (twins discount) and they're delivering AND setting up the furniture for us for $99.  You may want to check family owned stores, even if they're further away.  We found an awesome selection and very helpful staff (unlike BRU, lol).

  • I was looking at a crib at BRU that I was thinking of buying.  Shipping was $180.  I won't pay it, I will buy a $200 nicer crib from somewhere else.  I think it's ridiculous.
  • Can you just borrow a friend's truck for pickup?
  • $500?!  Seriously?  Not $50?  That is absolutely insane.  I've had other furniture delivered to my home, and it was either a flat fee, say $75 or a percentage, like 10% of furniture cost.  If they told me I had to pay a $500 delivery charge... oh... it just makes me mad thinking about it.

  • Yes $500 not a typo isn't that insane?  I can borrow my sister's truck or father in law's truck but it's the principle of the  matter -I have bought furniture from Macy's, Ramour Flannigan, etc and they don't charge nearly as much.    Crazy!   Makes me want to get the nursery furniture from elsewhere.

  • Try Amazon. The crib I picked out was over $100 for delivery with BRU, but free on Amazon.

  • My mom is purchasing our crib from BRU. They told her that she can pay for it in AZ and that I can then pick up the crib here in TX.
  • That is crazy!!  They are going to charge me $80....we're thinking of renting a UHAUL for 20 bucks/75 min. and doing it ourselves (well...DH and a buddy).  Do you live super far away from the store?

  • I just ordered a leather recliner from PB and didn't pay anything close to that for shipping.  $500 delivery for baby furniture from BRU is RIDICULOUS.

  • BRU is having FREE shipping on orders over $100 right now if you order online.

  • That is ridiculous!  We bought our crib, changing table with hutch and dresser from JCP.  Got it all on sale for $1200 and saved $300 in shipping by using a coupon code from retailmenot.com.  We had to pick it up ourselves but we didn't mind.  I wouldn't pay that much in shipping either.
  • wow, that's crazy! i would definitely try to find or somewhere else or online.  that's just ridiculous.

  • Geez. My mom ordered our stroller and car seat, big boxes but not as big as furniture obviously. It was only $25 for delivery and was free at the time. I would say go to the store and find out or call customer service.

  • That doesn't sound right. I ordered a crib (sorelle Princeton) 2 weeks ago online an they shipped it to my house for $10
  • I bought BRU baby furniture and just borrowed a friends truck.  I have no idea what they would have charged for shipping because we never ever have any type of furniture shipped to our house.  I do know that a lot of times shipping is free at BRU for online orders over $100.

    This.

  • Jeez Louise! I think ordering it online and paying for shipping would be cheaper. But of course your best bet would be to just get it from the store. Do you or your husband know anyone with a truck? My husband had a friend from work who has a pick-up truck help him go pick it up and he gave him $20 for the favor. Or if you can't find a friend or co-worker to help out, you could even rent a U-Haul van for like $20-30 for the day.

I would have to disagree with this.  I went to some local places where I live and their furniture was wayyyy pricer.  Also, I had to order my furniture at a Toys R Us instead of BRU because we don't have one here and the person who did my order was amazing.  I would agree most employees aren't stars but she was.  Our set was originally $1200 but we got 10% for opening a credit card, used a 20% coupon twice, and when you purchased all three pieces you got an additional 15% off.  I got the set for less than $800 and didn't have to pay for shipping because we picked it up ourselves.  I plan on writing a letter to Toys R Us because not only did she make sure we got the best deal we could she was so helpful in letting us know when our order showed up and everything.
