You have GOT to be KIDDING me!!!

Matthew needed a plaster cast instead of the boot thing; we got that yesterday.  I called his casemanager to let her know since he'd need accomodations to get on and off of the bus.  She called DH this morning since I was at work and told him it was an insurance liability issue to assisst him on and off of the bus and assist him with moving throughout the classroom.  I got the text from him saying that's what she said and texted him back that she's not telling the truth.  I worked for a year as a preschool disabilities classroom teacher.  He called her back; her response was that they think he should stay at home while he has his broken foot and they'd send home things with Jonathan.  Again, he texted me the info.  I called him and told him to mention homebound instruction to her and see if she'd change her tune.  He did and now they will help support him on and off of the bus as well as within the classroom.

  • I cannot believe she tried to play that! They have to provide services and the only reason he should be staying home is if he is sick, not dealing with a minor ?(I say minor, but I mean able to do his usual stuff for the most part, because we know a broken limb is not minor) injured. Ridiculous. I'm glad you got that sorted out, though.?

  • I told DH that they did need to provide services to him.  He needed ESY this summer because of regression and recopument issues, why would she think it was ok to suggest that, KWIM?  And she knew exactly who to say it to since I would have pulled the homebound instruction card as soon as she said that.  I taught special education for 7 years and out of those 7, 5 of them I was casemanager as well.

It is going to be a long 4 of 5 years with the same person since Matthew will be in preschool disabilities for 2 more years and Chris will be in for 3 years as well.

  • Isn't it amazing what people think they can get away with?  I've found in other areas that when people deal with my DH in relation to DS, they pull stuff with him they never would with me, knowing that he won't know the difference or stand up to them.  But maybe I'm projecting and that's just the dynamic in my own relationship.

    Glad it got worked out!

  • geez!  good for you for not buying her load of bull!

  • People try to pull stuff with me, and then I break out the "l" card (lawyer).  I don't know much about special ed law, but the fact that I practice law seems to really scare them.

It makes me feel really bad for people who don't know their rights and just accept what the school/county offers, never thinking that the school/county would be breaking the rules.
