anyones ultrasound show white spot on heart?

Did it turn out to be nothing?

I posted in my follow up earlier that my U/S showed a white spot on his heart. The Dr said it can be a soft marker for Downs but most likely is nothing, and wouldnt worry since our NT scan came back neg. But I am just trying to reassure myself its all ok.

TIA

  • My u/s is tomorrow, so i dont know.  Did your doc order a f/u in a few weeks to see if it had gone away?

  • Me!  I was sent to a specialist and everything because I did not have any genetic testing done.  Specialist said "I wouldn't give it a second thought" and "these show up in 1 and 20 normal pregnancies."  I was worried at first but it really should be nothing as long as there were no other markers present.

Ya they are calling me to schedule f/u ultrasound with a specialist (I opted not to go for amnio). She said its probably ok since everything else was fine.

  • My second daughter, Isabel showed up with bright white lungs on her 20 week u/s.  They told me it could be an indication for Downs.  We opted to not do the amnio & waited for delivery day.  The numbers for my quad screen were outstanding so we were hopeful that everything was okay and it was nothing.  She is now 2 years old and is & always has been in perfect health.  No issues whatsoever.

Fingers crossed that everything is okay with your little one.  It may just be a contrast on the u/s.  It'll be okay.

Glad to hear your DD turned out to be fine!

  • This is me exactly! I had my 20 week u/s on Monday and my doctor told me that the white spot on the lungs (called echogenic cardiac focus) was a soft marker for Down's. My NT scan and 16 week quad screen all came back normal, so my doctor assured me that while she was obligated to tell me about it, I shouldn't be worried at all. That being said, since it did come up, my insurance will pay for a followup level 2 U/s with a perinatologist which I will be having next week at the hospital I will deliver at. I read the internet cover to cover on this when I cam home from my appointment and am very confident that this is more common that people realize, that most likely, there is nothing to be concerned about, and that your baby is fine. Keep us posted, I will do the same, and good luck!
  • I meant the heart, not the lungs. sorry!
  • The exact same thing happened to my sister in law. They told her it was a soft indicator of Down's but all over her test came back normal. She also opted out of an amnio. Our beautiful and HEALTHY newphew was born last month!!! Try not to put much thought into it, I am sure you will have a healthy baby!

GL with your U/S. I will also keep you all posted how my U/S goes. I think I read that this happens in about 5% of all normal pregnancies. My Dr. said she has this convo w/patients all the time and its usually fine.
