1st Trimester

Working out, really?

So I used to have a really great routine for staying in shape. Kickboxing 3 - 4 nights and running  4 - 6 miles over the weekends. Than the fatigue set in... now it's difficult to walk for 30 minutes at a time at a really, really, slow pace... anyone else having trouble getting to the gym or getting off the couch for that matter?

Re: Working out, really?

  • Haven't hit it yet, but yes, I do remember being unable to function, practically, let alone go work out with my other two pregnancies.

I'm going to REALLY try this time, though, to go at least a couple times a week. I'm trying to keep my weight gain a little lower this time around and it's hard for me to pick back up exercise after I've stopped.

  • YES!  I told the hubs I'd go w/ him to the gym tonight hoping that would keep me motivated to go but as I'm dragging in these last 2 hours of work I doubt I'll be going.  It's too exhausting just going to work for 8 hours a day.  Ridiculous!

  • yes... it's awful. made it to the gym once a week the past few weeks. I was a 5 day a week gym goer before this adventure. I feel awful about it.. but I also know there isn't much I can do about it and I shouldn't beat myself up too much! Hopefully we'll all get our energy back soon and we'll be able to jump back into things!

  • Yes, but it got better at 9 weeks to where I was able to start my routine again.
  • FWIW,  I was like that and it's just now eased up some, and I've been to the gym 5 days in a row now.
  • I'm having the same issues - sooo tired!!  With DS, I got alot more energy and was able to work out on a regular basis after the 1st tri.

    thanks.. this gives us hope!

  • I typically workout 4-5 days/week and right now I'm struggling to even make it through a pilates reformer class!  I've had no energy to run or do any weight training.  I'm going to have a trainer through the second trimester and hopefully be able to get all caught back up!
  • Yes it was very hard from 5-7 weeks but I made myself go 3-4x/wk and just did a lighter workout. Now I am good to go for the past couple weeks :) Good luck and hang in there. I am so so thankful I stuck it out. It helped w/the bloat although it isn't much anymore :)

  • I miss it SO much! I am so stinkin' tired all the time I don't dare think of the gym, or pilates. Plus the nausea just sounds like a bad combo with the Elliptical and floor pilates. I'll see how I feel by 2nd tri and hopefully I'll be ok to work out again. I feel like a lazy cow. You're not alone, m'dear! I live in my bed.

  • Oh geez - I suck HARD at working out now.

I go to yoga as often as I can (which usually means 2x a week). I've stopped going to the advanced classes and just go at my pace and rest when I need.

Other days I'm on the treadmill. I can't even walk at a fast, inclined clip anymore and am going for length of time over speed. My new rule is, if the TV is on, I'm on the treadmill.

Of course I've already broken that rule and you DO have to listen to your body... but so far that's working for me.

  • Yes, it's been very difficult. I'm trying to work out 4-5 days a week, but it's hard to go out for a run when I'm exhausted and nauseous.
  • Yeah, Hubs and I took awhile off from the gym after we got married, then started getting back into the routine about 3 weeks before I got pregnant.... and now that I'm pregnant I never go anymore!  Not so much from the fatigue, but because I've been nauseous and get lightheaded easier.

  • I've pretty much accepted the fact that rest is suddenly of higher importance to me than the gym... Before all of this I was a gym ADDICT and would feel guilty if I missed a day. Now, all I want to do after a days work is go home and relax. I hope this passes and I get my energy back...
  • I'm slowly starting to get my energy back but it's hard.  I couldn't even run 2 miles the other day.  I am walking and doing yoga but even then I'm pretty exhausted.  And the cold weather makes it so hard to get outside.

  • I too am having a very hard time dragging myself to the gym. I tried to do spinning this week and had a very poor showing. The worst part is that my instructor is seven months pregnant and she was kicking my butt even before I got pregnant! She is def. my pregnancy role model.
  • Yep. I've been dragging myself 3 times a week since the m/s went away. (I have to pass my street to go to the gym and I have to force myself to do it!)  but it is slow and going I still huff and puff. It is nuts, I'm really hoping things spruce up in the second tri and I can work out better!
