  • In Ontario, Canada the average age is 31 for first time moms.  Just thought I'd throw that in so those of us who are older than 25 don't feel too bad about ourselves.
  • Close, I'll be 24 when I deliver.

  • That's a lot younger than I would have guessed but where I grew up, people have kids later in life.  My friends who have children or are pregnant were/will be 31+ when they deliver(ed).

The same is true for getting married - even the couples who met in college waited until their late 20's to get married.  It's an interesting cultural thing - as people in other areas of the country get married a lot sooner and have children sooner than others.

  • I'm off the chart then.  I gave birth to DD at 36 (okay....in truth I turned 27 4 days later but I am sticking to the lower number!).  Does it make a difference that I grew up in Ontario!!!!

I will be 38 or 39 when this baby is born (due August 16, DOB August 9).  DD came early, she was due August 15.

    Thanksgiving seems lucky for us!

  • I am spot on average

  • That sounds about right to me...

I'm 25 now, but will be 26 when I give birth.

  • Interesting, but I wish they broke this down more geographically.  I am sure sure sure that the average age is much higher around here.  (I was the first of my friends to have a child at 30 and will be 32 when #2 comes around.)
  • I am 25 now.  I'll be 26 when Baby Prepster is born.

We started dating at 19, married at 24, knocked up at 25.

ETA: I grew up in the Northeast in one of the largest cities in the US, and most of my friends are having their first child or trying.

Now I live in the South, and I am one of my LAST friends to have a baby.  Most of my friends have children between 6 months - 2 years...some have two.

  • I will be 24 when I deliver this baby, but I had Brooke at 22!
  • I'll be 29 when this LO arrives.

I think there should be a geographic breakdown.  I find that women in the south typically have kids much earlier.  My family thinks there is something wrong with me because 1.) I have an advanced degree and 2.) I put off having kids to do it.  Most of my cousins had their first by 20 or 21.

Really? I didn't know it was that high here...(not to say that 31 is too old, just seems high as an average to me)

I guess I fit the US stat since I'll be 25...

This for me! We were married at 21 and people had started giving up on us since we're 24& 25 without kids! Crazy. Almost all my friends have two kids, or have their second on the way.

  • I'm 25 and will be on delivery day for a few weeks :) All my friends are having babies right now or have a LO already. I live in the Midwest which everything from marriage to babies seems to happen a lot earlier than the coasts.

Interesting... I thought the number was about right. I'm from the midwest (Kansas City, MO) and most of my friends were married and starting families within 5-6 years of being out of high school (so age 23-24)...  In fact, I am one of the last (if not the last.. I can't think of any others) of my friends to start having children.. and I am 28.

  • I was 24 when I had DD1, almost 25.  I am now 29 and having #3
  • Well my birthday is right before edd and I figure with all the baby attention I'm going to shave a couple years off mine while I've got the chance for no one to notice!  So I'll be 29 when I deliver but at my birthday a few weeks before I'm going to be 27 again. Hopefully no one will catch on!
