I'll be the stupid one to ask how you can have a "larger" 2 year old rear facing? They wouldn't fit in the infant seat anymore so what kind of seat would you get that would allow them to be rear facing? Don't they have longer legs so they hit the back of the seat? Is that safe?
I am not partial to anything really, haven't done enough research myself yet. Just questioning the logistics of it.
Re: s/o rear facing...
This!!
Convertible seats are meant to be RF and then turned FF. Many newer seats allow kids to remain RF until they are 40 lbs. Having their legs/feet touch the back of the seat is not a safety issue nor is it uncomfortable for small children (even if it might be for an adult).
You will need a convertible seat as soon as your baby reaches either the weight OR height limit of your infant seat, and height usually is reached first. Check your manual for what it is (usually head is 1" from top). I have a link in my sig with recommendations for seats.
Have you not seen convertable car seats? Infant seats only go up to 22lbs on average and I think there might be a few that go to 30.
Convertibles go from 5-35 or 40 (on average) RF and then up to 80 or even 100 FF.
They're all different with different weight and height requirements, but like I said, those are mostly averages that I've personally seen.
Thank you!
Like I said, it may be a stupid question but I haven't started researching it yet. I should though as we have a 30lb max on our infant seat and he's already 18lbs so...yeah, I better get looking! HAHA
Thanks again ladies!!!
What kind of infant seat do you have? I'm needing a new one for our next LO. Thanks!!
The Chicco KeyFit 30
Chicco makes the KeyFit 30 that you can use up to 30 pounds and I think Graco makes one that goes that high as well (Snugride?).
