World TTTS Awareness Day

I'm a couple of days late but I wanted to make sure I acknowledged TTTS Awareness Day, which was on Monday. You guys know our own heart-breaking story, and despite all the trauma we went through, we were the lucky ones because both of our babies survived. Even with successful laser surgery, the survival rates for both babies are still only just over 50% and so much of that is due to late diagnosis.

I hope I'm preaching to the choir here, but if you know anyone who is pregnant with twins (or you currently are and haven't talk to your doc about this yet), make sure they ask their doctor if the babies are identical, are sharing a placenta and are therefore at risk for TTTS. I would even go as far as to say that every mom pregnant with twins needs to be seen by a high-risk specialist, since our babies would have NEVER survived if we hadn't been at a peri office from the beginning.

Okay, I'm done, thanks for letting me get on my soap box for a minute.

  • Your story is so amazing. Your girls are getting so big!  They are too cute.

  • Thanks for posting this.  It really is scary how many people truly don't realize the risks of a shared placenta.  Heck, I have felt like even my regular OB's office doesn't truly... it was like pulling teeth to get a referral to a peri from them.

Just about 2 weeks ago, my own mom said that she had been researching on her own for a while and finally realized how important having a peri is and why we are always so concerned with the girls' weights... and where our worry was coming from.  I tried to explain this all to her in the beginning but it's just not something that's easily absorbed.

This is why I always take the time to explain things for people who are interested!
