I was just wondering if its possible for a 3wk old baby (formula/breastmilk fed) baby to be constipated? My baby girl hasnt gone since about 12 midnight. She groans and pushes like she wants to go but nothing comes out, just gas...what can i do to help her?
Re: Constipated 3wk old?
Formula can make babies constipated - but if it's only been since midnight I wouldn't worry. My FF baby only goes once a day or every other day and it's still considered normal.
If it's been more than 3 days, you might want to call your pedi. Mine suggested I add a little pear juice to a bottle a day to help things along. Glycerin suppositories and checking their temp anally can help too - but call your pedi first.
GL!
I was worried about this too, but my FF guy doesn't go for 2-3 days. The doc told me yesterday he is only constipated if when he does go the poop is hard and looks like adult poop (sorry if TMI). As long as it is mushy it is fine.
My DS seems really uncomfortable too when he is trying to push something out and I was told to try a warm bath, a warm washcloth on his belly and a baby massage (upside down u motion across his belly button) as well as the above.
HTH! GL!!! We get really excited when he does poop we do a poop dance.
