What age did you start sippy cups? and more so- which ones? I got a Playtex with this valve thing and you have suck on that harder than a bottle to get anything out. Take the valve off and its practically a fire hose What brand do you guys like?
We started around 6 months but we don't do it everyday. If we remember we just let him practice at dinner. He is getting better but often just chews on the bottom.
We have the Nuby brand ones. It really doesn't leak unless you apply pressure to the little spout.
We started giving DS a sippy around 5 months for him to get used to it. He started drinking from it around 6 months. We started with the Playtex ones with handles and also the Nuby straw cups. He was never a picky child and used any type of sippy we gave him.
I have given DS a sippy at dinner every once in a while. Sometimes he will suck on the top, but he doesn't realize he has to tip it to get the drink, so when he doesn't get anything, he puts it aside. I know what you mean on the "firehose" statement. I took the valve out so I could show him there was liquid in it and it came out so fast, he made a face and started coughing. But I am afraid with the valve, he won't get anything at all and won't even try to drink. I need to practice with him more.
we started offering a cup with meals. We have tons.. Lila likes the Avent with soft spout best. However, DS liked the Think Baby ones (have them at HEB). The spout is super soft, almost like a bottle with handles. It doesn't have a valve at all... We actually transitioned him away from the bottle using that cup. It's also much easier to clean than a lot of the other cups.
We started around 5 months for Aiden to get used to it. He drank from it around 6 months. He's not really picky at all, but prefers the nuby with the straw and handles.
Both kids like the Nuby straw cups. We started at 6 months with water in them to play with and get used to and then did a full on switch at 9 months and removed all bottles from the house.
ummm... is it so bad that sippy cups weren't even on my radar for mathis and he is 7 mos old? i guess i just completely forgot. wow.
nope, second child syndrome.. I always feel bad for Lila. We had planned to get her pic taken in her Halloween costume like we did with Luca... Doesn't fit her anymore oops.... She ate refried beans and apple sauce for dinner last night because I forgot her food.. She's still alive. We do the best we can!!! It's like she turned 7 months in the blink of an eye.
we started around 6-7mos. we actually used a straw cup bc she didn't "get" that she had to lift the sippy cup.
I tried the straw cup, too -but he just chews on the straw! I think I might try the one bpaullo sent. He would definitely "get" that one b/c he can hold a bottle by himself.
DS never like the straw cups. We started with the Nuby cup with handles and then the Nuby without handles. We have since moved on to insulated Playtex cups and don't use a bottle at all anymore.
