2nd Trimester

Can you feel your uterus?

This may be a dumb question. I was ready a baby book last night and I am 14 weeks pregnant. It says you are able to feel your uterus right above your pelvic bone. Can anyone else feel it?

Re: Can you feel your uterus?

  • Yep, there is a disctinctive bump between my pelvic bone and belly button... you can really feel it flat on your back.

  • I can tell a difference between where it stops and where it's just my stomach.  It's firmer.  I always ask my ob where it's at when I see him.

  • yep...mine is all the way up to my rib cage now!
  • I couldn't feel it until later. Around 16 weeks, I think.

  • Lay on the hard floor on your back. Start at your pubic bone and go finger after finger up from there pushing down. Some people depending on their belly size pre pregnancy can feel the hardness where their uterus is.

  • My doctor said she felt it at my last appointment, but I sure as heck couldn't tell. I guess it is harder and then gets softer....I keep forgetting how big it is now!
  • This has always perplexed me because I have never been able to feel it - not in 40 weeks with my son and not in the 25 weeks so far with this pregnancy.

  • My doctor felt it at an appointment (at 16 weeks, I think) and I asked her to "show" me where it was so I knew what I was feeling.

  • Yep. It's about an inch above my belly button. :-)

  • Yes, it is smooth and firm. Mine comes up to just under my belly button. I can really feel it when I have a BH cause then it gets very hard.

  • Sure can! First noticed it around 15 weeks. And it's even more noticable in the morning when I have to pee really bad :)
  • I can feel mine. My doc had me place my hand horizontally across my stomach, like I was going to karate chop myself. He then had me press down and slowly move my hand down my stomach until I was able to feel a slight wall. It wasn't solid but it was firmer than the rest of my stomach. Hope that makes sense.
  • I can only tell at certain times - it helps when I am laying down too. Its a little over halfway to my belly button. I'm sure once we are a little futher along it will be more distinct

  • I think I can.  It feels like it's right above my navel.  But since this is my first time at the rodeo, I'm not 100% sure about anything I feel.

I think it is crazy how different everyone is b/c it perplexes me that someone can't feel it! You can look at my stomach and see the outline of my uterus. Even my husband could touch my stomach and tell you exactly where my uterus was very early on.

I would say it's b/c I'm small and don't carry fat in my stomach, but aren't you tiny too?

  • I couldn't feel where it was until around 15 weeks. Now it's very obvious.
