Now I'm curious after reading someone else's post. At my hospital, everyone came to the baby if anything needed doing. All his tests and even his jaundice light box were brought to our room- he never left my room for anything.
Is this not a normal thing? I would have been very unhappy if anyone had taken my baby out of my room. My hospital isn't even equipped with a nursery except for the NICU but I wouldn't have wanted one anyway.
Re: Did baby leave your room while at the hospital?
ours had to stay in the room with us, They took her out to draw blood though. But everything else was done in the room with us.
But our hospital had no nursery to take her too either
No, he went to the nursery each night per our choice. All pedi checks were done in the nursery, as was his circ. and baths.
The hearing test, billirubin tests, etc were done in the room with us.
this.
Plus being alone after a c-section, I admit I sent her to the nursery the first morning so I could finally sleep a little. I would also take a shower while the pedi was checking her out in the nursery.
All the tests were done in our room (hearing, jaundice, pedi checkups)
He was taken out (my husband went with him) after he was born because he had a slight fever and they had to take him to the nursery for a little wihle (less than 2 hours).
I sent him to the nursery at night and all of his tests and circ were done in the nursery as well.
He was born at 10:30pm and there would have been NO WAY I would have been able to get out of bed and get him when he needed me. I was so exhausted I couldn't even sit up, much less get out of bed and pick up the baby. Plus the epi took forever to wear off and I couldn't walk...when they made me get up to go to the bathroom, two nurses had to come and stand on either side of me to support me to get me into the bathroom.
Plus, DH didn't stay at the hospital. The sleeping arrangements were not comfortable at all and he got no rest the night before at the hospital and we didn't see the point in both of us being completely exhausted with a newborn.
This. They brought him in to nurse but I knew I'd be on my own when we got home and wanted to rest. He still spent 80% of his time in my room b/c the kiddo loves to eat!

This, minus the circ since Claire was born without a peen!
Same here. (Obviously no circ though).
I was up since 4:30am the day before my c-section, and combined with meds, I couldn't even keep my eyes open. I felt quilty for sending her to the nursery at night (at first) but it was the best decision for us. She had someone to watch her continuously and it wasn't like I could jump out of bed if I needed to. When it was daytime, she was in my room constantly, unless I wanted to shower and no one was there. I would wheel her back for an hour and then go get her when I was finished.
