Pregnant after a Loss

Sinus infection and pg...

I just found out this morning that I have a sinus infection..  Ugh..  The Robitussin DM was not helping at all so I finally went to the dr.  They gave me a Zpack and said I should be feeling better in two days..

The bad part is the coughing...  And I cant use regular cough drops..  Anyone have any ideas besides peppermints (which I am already using btw)..

Thanks girls..  Im trying to be so careful, which is why I waited a week to go get checked out..

  • Why can't you use cough drops? Is that a pg thing or a you specific thing?

I always use Vitamin C drops, but I guess technically those are cough drops, though I don't think they're as 'medicated' as some.

I've always swallowed some honey to help, used Vix, or just sat with my face over a pot of boiling water... the steam seems to help.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I had two sinus infections in two months.  Sleep with a humidifier on if you have one - that helps A LOT.  Saline nasal spray also helps.  (Not the allergy nose sprays, those ones have medication in them, but the saline is harmless.)  Oh, and the netti pot works too even though it's gross.
  • First of all, stop taking the Robitussin DM.  You want to avoid anything with a D in it.  Regular Robitussin is fine.  Regular sudafed and benadryl might help along with a neti pot.  I went through this a few months ago, and it was horrific but these things helped.

  • I'm sorry you're not feeling well Lynn. I had a bad sinus infection last month. Besides the Z Pack, my Dr also told me to use saline nasal drops twice a day, take long hot showers with as much steam as you can generate in the bathroom (no exhause fan on or leaving the door open, etc.), and to try a humidifier. He also told me to take Zyrtec or Benadryl since my sinus issues seem to be triggered by allergies. Hope you feel better soon.

  • That sucks! You and your family have been perminantly sick this fall! I had three sinus infections while pg with DS. I lived on hot water with lemon juice and lots of honey. It really seemed to help me. Another caution- it is really easy to get thrush or a yeast infection when pg. The antibiotics put me over the top and I got both really bad every time I had a sinus infection! Just an FYI!

  • They have these tabs that you can put in the tub while in the shower. They release vapors (like vaporub). I wonder if this would be okay  for PG women, they always help me feel better when I have the sinus crud.

I also use something similar to netipot. It is a saline solution that comes in a water bottle, gross, but effective.

Hope you feel better soon, Lynn!
