I sleep on my back, but the books say that I should not be on my back. I wake up in the middle of the night and catch myself sleeping on my back still....what should I do??
I still sleep on my back and I relax/lay on my back on the couch still. I try to stop, but I heard you will know when you NEED to stop because it will be uncomfortable and hard to breath.
Hmmm maybe I should check with my Doc to make sure...
Your body will tell you when to move and not be on your back. It's going to happen sometimes and there's not much you can do about it! Some people support themselves with pillows while sleeping, so if you are really worried than that might help.
It should be fine. I still sleep on my back too. I just asked my dr. about this and she said it's fine & your body will let you know when it's time to stop.
Like all the pp have said, your body will let you know when you can no longer sleep on your back. I actaully still sleep on my back occasionally but I haven't had any pain waking me up or anything. I usually don't sleep like that all night and roll over onto my side after about 30 minute stretches.
This is something I worried about a lot with my first pregnancy. I will tell you this, when I finally laid on my back after DD was born it hurt so bad because I was used to laying on my side. I agree with pp's, your body will tell you. Try to prop yourself up a little or alternate your sleeping positions. You will be fine.

The best thing to do is just roll over when you realize that you're on your back. Of course right now I 'm the most comfortable on my back, so I tend to just relax on my back for a minute or two and then flip over to my side.

My body has definitely told me it's time - and I got one of those huge pregnancy body pillows. Best purchase I ever made! It really helps me sleep on my side.

Not panic. I was concerned when I first got pregnant & talked to my doctor. He said just to sleep in whatever position I find to be the most comfortable, which for me is my back usually. If you wake up on your back & your legs or hands are tingling, then just roll on your side. But, it's my understanding that no harm is going to come to the baby from your sleep position.
Trust me, your body will wake you up if there's a problem. I woke up one night having a hard time breathing, then I noticed I was on my back. I rolled onto my side and I felt fine again. That's only happened once though, and I wake up on my back a lot.
You could support your back with pillows so you don't roll over onto your back at night. But don't worry. Everyone moves when they sleep and I often find myself on my back in the middle of the night. Just roll back over. And, as other posts said, your body will let you know when to not sleep on your back anymore.

This. It doesn't bother every one. I have only gotten dizzy/lightheaded/palpitations from it once. I rolled over and was fine.
