For those is cold climates

Do you put LO in their carseat with their huge coat on?  Now that DS is not a little guy I'm wondering if I should put him in his seat with his coat.

  • We do - it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

  • No- we use a fleece suit when it's really cold out.
  • no - he wears a sweatshirt and we wrap him in a blanket from the house to the car and then put the blanket over him.  I bring his coat with us and leave it with him at daycare so he can play outside.

  • Nope, he wears a fleece coat, hat, gloves and I wrap him in a blanket. If he needs a puffy coat once we get where we are going, I just put it on him after we get to our destination.

  • Nope, it's way too bulky (it is COLD here!) so we just take it on and off every time we're in the car (unless I'm just going to a store a few stores down, etc...) It just doesn't seem like she would be safe in there with the straps with a giant puffy coat on, plus she hates it because she can barely move her arms, so it definitely doesn't work for us! :)
  • DS wears his coat. I just make sure that I don't maket he car too warm so he doesn;t get hot.

  • It really depends on how far we're going. She's uncomfy in her heavy coat in the car so I only do it for short trips. She can't move her arms.

Her coat has 2 parts. A lining which we leave on in the car and the heavy outer shell. That we put on when she comes out of the car.

  • We keep his big coat on him in the car.

  • Same for us.  Ben usually just wears a lighter fleece jacket in the car and we bring his heavy coat with us.  It was 4 below last night though, so we did try the heavy coat in the carseat.  He wasn't too comfortable, but for a 10 minute drive, it was doable.

  • No, the compression risk is there no matter how old your child is. We still just do fleece in the car with either blankets over them or another jacket on them backwards (over the straps).

  • DS wears a lighter weight coat and then I cover him with a blanket in the car.

I want to try and make a baby cape thing to keep in the car.  (google "baby cape online" or "baby bloak" to see the pics.)

  • It hasn't been too cold here lately which is surprising, but it is starting to get colder.

We still just have her in a fleece.  We warm up the car before we get in it, so really I don't see the need for a huge jacket.  DD gets overheated easily, so I can't imagine she'd want to wear a big jacket.

The coat she has is a 3in1, and she wears the fleece part now, and I will probably just bring along the outer coat part in the car and throw on when we get out now that its getting colder.
