3rd Trimester

Baby went Breech in the middle of my appt

At my 36 week appt (2 weeks ago) I was 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced and baby was head down.  I was just happy to hear numbers after carrying this baby for 8 months.

Then I had my 37 week appt last week.  I was measuring 37 weeks and I was now 2 cm dilated, still 50% effaced and the baby dropped even more.  The dr could feel the baby's head while doing the internal.  I was feeling good about the progress.  I know that women walk around like this for weeks and can go past their due date, but still I was happy with everything.

Today was my 37/38 week appt.   In the middle of my appt, my stomach did this huge shift.  My husband and the physician's assistant could not believe it.   She measured me and now I was reading at 34 weeks.  She thought maybe the baby dropped down more.  Then she did an internal and couldn't feel anything.  She sent me to get an ultrasound and sure enough she flipped.   I could not believe it.  So they told my husband and I that we had to make a decision that moment.   Either schedule a c-section, schedule an aversion or do nothing.   We scheduled the aversion for thursday morning at 8am.

Has anyone else experienced a baby to flip this late in the pregnancy?  I know babies can always turn, but looking for some positive feedback.  I was planning on having a natural birth and its a little frustrating, but what can you do when the baby has a different plan:)  Since this morning, I have gone to the chiropractor, did the plank and the polar bear pose.   In an hour I am off to take a bath and put some cold peas on my stomach, just hoping she will turn before the aversion!

  • It is possible to change the position of the baby through your posture and positioning.  Check out this website spinningbabies.com for information on how you can do just that and still achieve your natural birth.

  • https://www.spinningbabies.com/    I heard about this at a bradley method class. Also, the teacher stated that she new of a chiropractor that helped with positions that will give the baby more room to move into position. Hope that helps.

  • How crazy!

    Fyi--it's a version, not an aversion. ;)

  • Holy crap! How odd! Hope the version goes well for you. We are breech right now, but LO has been breech the entire time.

  • oh my! I hope exterior methods work for you.. I can't believe baby flipped this late.. you'd think it's really hard considering they have no room left.

    Sending flipping dust your way!!

  • Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry. I've never heard of that happening. Ditto about the spinningbabies site, and I do know of at least a few women who've been able to get their babies to turn- don't give up hope yet!

  • I would get in-touch with a Chiropractor asap! Everything I have been reading online says you have a pretty good chance of the baby flipping after an adjustment so I would highly recommend it!
  • I had my 35 week appointment today and learned my girl is breech as well.  I have a huge lump under my right boob that I was thinking all this time was a butt, however it is her head.  So lame!  I have one week to get her to turn, if not they will try to do a version. Today I went to the chiropractor and had an adjustment.  I will be seeing her every day for a week for continuous adjustments. I went to the acupuncturist also and will see him again on Thursday.  I have been laying upside down at a 30 degree incline on and off all day.  I took a warm bath with the ice pack over her head.  I will be trying music down by my crotch and a flashlight as well...couldn't hurt to try.  I am really trying to avoid the version, but will do whatever I need to...including a c-section obviously, but I am hoping something will work.  Good luck to you, I will look for a post from you to see what happens!
  • Holy Cow! I would be so nervous about trying a "version". It sounds risky to me.  But, at the same time, I would hate to have a C-sec.  Good Luck and I pray everything goes smoothly either way.
  • Thanks for your thoughts and comments.  It was a little frustrating yesterday.   I did see the chiropractor yesterday and have an appt with an accupuncturist tonight.   Last night I did lay on an incline, the polar bear pose and sat in a warm bath with frozen peas on my belly and none of that phased her.

I really didn't want to do the version (thanks for the spelling correction:) ) but since I am at 37 weeks and 5 days, I am running out of options and if I wait too long to do the version it will be too late to try it and can cause more issues.  I am worried about the risks, but the dr told me that there is only 1% chance of an emergency csection and a 65% chance that it will work.  I am hoping for the best!
