Stretch marks

How soon will you or did you start using lotions, etc. to help with stretch marks?  My Aunt bought me some oil to put on in the shower and then lotion for afterwards from Clarion at Nordstrom's.  I've never heard of it but I hope it works!  But when do I start using it?  Obviously my bump is just bloat right now but do I start using it now to be proactive or wait till I get a little bigger?  Thoughts?!?

Re: Stretch marks

  • All of the lotions in the world won't help you if you are genetically predisposed to getting stretch marks. Does your mom have stretch marks? If not, you may be in the clear!

  • A friend of mine suggested to start using it now when she gave me some. Not sure if it will help at this point or not but it definitely can't hurt :D
  • I started as soon as I got my bfp.... its never to soon to get your skin all elastic. I use bath and body works "lay it on thick" lotion. Didnt get a stretchie with DD and I used it the whole time. Of course its genetic but I'm sure its helps a bit.

This!  I used cream during my first pregnancy. (it felt good on the stretching skin)  I didn't get stretch marks on my belly but I did on my boobs even with using the cream the entire pregnancy.

  • My mom has horrible stretchies.... I never got any... so much for my genetics! lol

  • Whats a good cream? i dont like that Lay it on thick from B&B
  • I really don't think creams prevent stretch marks. :(
  • Not sure whether to think it'll help or not but I've been using coconut oil since my BFP.  Can't hurt to try.....

my mom has NO stretch marks, ANYWHERE.  i'm a sack of loose wrinkly skin Sad

  • I used cocoa butter on stretch marks I already acquired  which weren't that bad and they went away (at the advise of my mother in law who also found that it helped). So, I'll be using lotion as soon as I can stand the smell. I'm sure you can't completely overcome genetics, but I think lotion can play a small part in making them less bad.

  • I used a couple different lotions with my son and only got 2 tiny stretch marks on each hip.  I have already started using a Bumble & Bumble cream this time and hope I have the same result!

That being said, I agree that it is 90% genetics.  My mom has stretch marks on her boobs and abdomen and as I mentioned, I hardly got any the first time around, but I don't have my mom's skin, I have my dad's (he is more olive skin-toned) and I think that is what makes the difference... my humble opinion from a non-medical expert.  :)
