Have any of you had a water birth - or are you considering it?
I've always been fascinated by the idea. I had a few friends do homebirths this way. homebirth isn't an option (medically) for me, but I'm hoping waterbirth still is... are there any limitations on it for people?
Re: Water Birth
I don't think it's for me either. I watched it on tv once and when the nurse got out the fish net during labor to start grabbing all the floaters I was gone. lol.... ewww
I've always been open to it, but my hospitals have never provided water births. With my second they did have a big labor tub/jacuzzi, but I never made it in as I was "stuck" on the birthing ball
My DH is also on the side of finding it gross to be sitting in all of those fluids and stuff...
I had a water birth and it was amazing. It definitely helped me to relax, my contractions slowed down but they were still intense. I think I was just more relaxed and calm and I felt like my contractions were really efficient, if that makes sense.
As far as sitting in your own fluids, my DD was born and I was in the tub for only a couple of minutes afterwards, so I wasn't "sitting in my own fluids". It's not half as bad/gross as some of you may think it is. I guess I just feel like labor isn't glamorous whether you're in the water or not and i'd rather have a calm and relaxing labor/birth then worry about the 2-3 minutes i'm in the tub with some blood/fluid.
Oh and I didn't push my placenta out in the tub either.
Anyways, loved my water birth and I have every intention of doing it again and again!
its the fluids that worry me. I'd really like to do labor in water since I can't walk and don't want to just sit there through it.
