brown spotting after exam

Yesterday during my NST I was having a ton of contractions so they checked me before letting me leave the hospital.  Later in the day I had to see the on-call OB because I thought I had a yeast infection.  She checked and yes I do have a yeast infection and she checked me as well.  Last night I had a small amount of brown discharge.  I called in and they said it was likely from the exam and not to worry unless it is red.  It stopped and then again today I had a little more.  It was only brown though and not red so I am thinking I am still good.  Wondering if anyone else has had this experience?   Also, why does this happen, that you would bleed old blood from an exam?  TIA

    That happened to me a few times and I was told it was completely normal.  I have no idea why it happens though.

    I think it has something to do with the fact that all those tissues are swollen and under pressure already.  They're more sensitive and the blood vessels are expanded with more blood flow.

    I dunno, but that's what makes sense in my head ; )
