I am sceduled for a c-section on Jan 14th. I will be 38 weeks. The reason for the c-section is becasue of a previous one. My question is... what were things you needed at home once you came home? I can't remember anything with dd but I do remember sending my dh quite a few times. Anything that helped comfort you? Breastfeeding supplies? Bottlefeeding supplies? Things that helped with your incisional pain? Binder? Just trying to get a few things in order just in case I don't make it until 38 weeks.
Re: For those of you who had c-sections
The one thing that I really wanted immediately after the surgery was lifesavers. They wouldn't let me have anything until I passed gas and my mouth tasted like crap and I was throwing up. Honestly, if I could go back in time and pack just one more thing that is what it would be.
At hospital: A husband, the pillow not the spouse, helped me to sit up and BF; granny panties; I wore long panty liners between my incision and binder to keep the incision dry and to protect it from little feet, make sure you have some that don't have a drying gel in it b/c the chemicals will irritate you; I also used my hairdryer at the hospital to dry the incision.
We went out immediately after my discharge and got: slip on sneakers; tylenol, ibuprofen, and colace; more nipple shields, little suckers kept getting lost in the sheets; a plastic cover for our bed; extra attachments for the pump; milkmaid tea; witch hazel pads to blot my incision clean.
thats my daughters bday! what a good date!
buy pads so you dont have to send dh for them. some prepared meals. motrin/ibprofin for pain. other than that the c/s isnt as bd as the first one!
Heating pad, I sent DH home for it, b/c the hospital one was one that filled with water and it was not working properly.
I brought my own pillow.
I also brought moist toliette wipes, b/c I did not shower right away and wanted to feel fresh "down there".
I wish I brought my gas-x pills, cause on the second day after the c I had gas pains and what the hospital gave me wasn't working.
Obviously, robe and slippers cause they want you to walk the halls after the c.
i didn't have that much pain from the c/s. It was actuall 100x's easier for me to recover from than the vaginal birth i had with Griffin (4th deg tear).
I did take lots of advil - it worked better for me than percocet - so maybe get a big bottle of that. Pads of course- for PP bleeding...
for me, my c/s scar took a LONG time to heal b/c it was under a flap of fat and summertime- so it was hard to keep dry. Make sure to keep it as dry as possible- blowdry it on low setting after showers, etc. Once i started doing that he started to heal a lot faster (it's also when i started to lose more weight and the fat flap went away, lol)
I got a binder from the hospital, so I wouldn't go out and buy one before hand. Just ask for one there.
Formula (just in case)
Fenugreek (for increasing milk)
LONG pads without wings (I wore them against my incision to keep it dry)
Meduim pads with wings (for normal use)
Colase
I didn't take the percoset, but had a perscription for Motrin. 600mg every 6 hours was enough for the pain for me.
