3rd Trimester

Induction sux

Haven't had any food since 4-5pm yesterday.  I have been at the hospital since 7:30pm last night.  They started me on Cervadil last night around 9ish had contractions according to monitor but still 0 dialated this morning.  Started on pitocin at 5am.  More contractions, none are painful.  Still waiting for progress!  Uncomfortable and starving to death.

Just thought people might want to know what to consider if you are going to be induced.

Re: Induction sux

  • Sorry you're not having a good time, but mine was a breeze.  I was induced at 38 wks last time and don't have a single complaint about it!  It's different for everyone.

This. Exactly.  Mine was wonderful and I couldn't have asked for a better L&D with my DD.  Sorry yours is sucky.

  • Sorry you are hungry, and hate to be monday morning QB, but why didn't you eat last night?  When I was induced with DD#2, I had the cervadil inserted and then chowed down while watching tv.  I couldn't eat in the morning.

Hang in there, you'll be meeting your baby soon.

  • That sucks they won't let you eat. I'm so glad my hospital will let you do whatever you want really.

  • I don't think I could deal with the whole no food thing.  I get really crabby when I'm hungry and add some pain on top of that, look out!

  • Mine was also a breeze. I'm hoping he gives me an induction date at my appointment today. I really don't remember being hungry last time around. I think they let me eat.

This for me too!  I was allowed to eat up until midnight and since I knew I couldn't eat after that, I took full advantage!

  • Will they let you have lollipops or chicken broth just to get you past the starvation?  Hopefully its just a matter of time now.  Good luck!
  • Great. I'm getting induced on Thursday ( i go in tomorrow night for the cervadil). But, I can't really wait any longer and being pregnant is killing me lol. I was just talking to DH last night about the lack of eating and how I think that will be absolutely horrible!
  • Sorry OP that you're having such a rough time!  :o(  But LO will be here soon!  GL.   The other's tho posted about having good inductions, had you had any progress before being induced?  OP said she was 0 dilated, so maybe that's why it's so rough for her, (that's what I've heard)  So i'm curious.  TIA

  • I was induced at 38 weeks and was already 2cm when it started.
  • No fun! I am getting prepared for this possibility. No progress and BP was higher than my normal yesterday although still in the normal range. I am going back in tomorrow to get checked again...Hang in there, it will soon all be worth it!
  • so why can't you eat??  i was able to eat the entire time of my induction and right up to when i was in labor.  i would double check on that.   induction is not fun-some do go quicker than others.   i am learning that each one is different, just like labor!
  • Well I think the reason it was so difficult for me is because my otherwise fantastic doc actually told me to quit eating before I went in the hospital, water and everything.  This hospital is apparently very strict about the no food during labor because at any moment I might've progressed to next stage or needing surgery or whatever and they think IV is enough!  I don't think it was ever intended for me to be in that uncomfortable bed on my side and such for sooo long.  On top of that, there was a lot of frustration since I was not having progress and there as really nothing I could do about it.  I never did open up despite having "really good" contractions like all day long that day.

Tuesday evening about 5pm I made a decision to opt for C section.   I'm glad I did, by 7 I met my stubborn LO.  Its been a busy few days since then but may I'll post the birth story.
