Day care question

How do you go about looking for daycare? Do you call the places and set up a time to tour the place or ask questions over the phone first?. I am just not sure of the procedure.

What do you ask for infants?

I am guessing we need to be looking now, I have seen ads saying they are enrolling for fall already.

Thanks for any info.

    I started calling around and some places we had to set up an appt and others said come in anytime.  But it takes 30-60 min to tour and interview a place. 

    Having multiples, I was told repeatedly that I needed to get on the waiting lists ASAP, so we visited them a few weeks ago and are on the waiting lists.

    Start with your state's licensing website.  They usually have a list of licensed providers, or a way you can search for them.

    Honestly, I'd get on the waiting list immediately when calling.  THEN tour and ask questions, and take yourself off of the waiting list.  It's easier to remove yourself than it is to get yourself on it.

    with my singleton i looked in Dec for a Sept start- so with 2 babies you should be looking for sure.

    for me- i only needed 4 days/week so i called all the places in the area and if they didn't do partial weeks- they got crossed off the list.  Then i narrowed it down by location - easiest for me/dh to do drop off and pickup without too much traffic --- and made appts at 3 places. I fell in love with 2 of them- one more than the other- so i put the deposit down there.

    ask on your local nest board - you might get some good recs.

    Oh my goodness, we'd better get on it! We anticipate needing daycare starting in August, and haven't even started looking for providers... Thanks for asking the question, Kittycat, I had no idea it was so urgent.
