Do you wash your hands ...

... after every dirty diaper?

A girlfriend of mine who is a mother of 2 still in diapers mentioned that her hands are chapped from all the washing she does after changing; and it occurred to me that unless i get actual poop on my hands, i rarely wash after a diaper change.

i mean, i'm holding an infant ... plus, we BF, so the poop doesnt stink "alerting" me to wash. And I am pretty efficient at cleaning my LO's bum so that all the mess gets on the wipey and not my hands.... but still... it's gross, right?

Re: Do you wash your hands ...

  • I typically wash after changing a poopy diaper just in case some got on me . My hands are extremely chapped because of it and I also have 2 in diapers.

  • I don't wash after every one.
  • I wash after every poopy and after most pee's.  If I can't because he is throwing a fit, I keep a bottle of Purrell next to the changing table for emergencies.  I BF and the poop definitely stinks, kinda sweet smelling.

The nurses at the hospital told of of some disease babies can get if you dont wash your hands after a dirty diaper and then feed them... I can't remember the name of it.  So they scared me into washing my hands a ton.

As a result my hands are severely chapped and I keep lotion at every sink in the house now.

    This.

  • I try to either wash or use the hand sanitizer each time but I'm sure there have been plenty of times when I've forgotten.

  • I wash after every one because I am icing her butt with diaper rash cream.
  • I wash alot... not every time, but alot (and mostly after doing chores than changing)

  • Guess I get the bad Momy badge because I don't get a chance to even think about washing my hands after every dirty diaper. I'm more interested in making sure pump parts and bottle nipples are washed and clean for the next round. Sometimes I don't even get to do that before she throws a hissy fit.

Think it's time to order that Moby....

  • It's not that gross.   I sanitize, wash if I get poop on me, but if I get pee on me...I think sometimes I forget and just sanitize.

I mean, I get barfed/peed/pooped on so often, I can't really keep track any more.

  • After a poopy diaper-yes. He only poops maybe once a day though. But with pee, most of the time ill just use a wipe on my hands afterwards, he pee's way too much to be constantly washing my hands. But I can understand if I was about to feed another child or if I was about to handle something that my kid might put in his mouth.
  • I wash after every poop diaper.. but not if it's just pee, unless I get pee on my hands.

  • I use the hand sanitizer on my changing table every time. Here is a tip for moms with chapped hands. Use a non-alcohol based hand sanitizer such as Baby Ganics. It prevents your hands from getting dried out.
